ahh, the joys of working late nights....
a cashier was telling me a story about our new STL-in Training (I call him Rope-A-Dope...he's clueless....last night, he left 3 clean tills with at least $300 in each till on the back of a register...thankfully I was there to watch over them)....
three people come into this cashier's line (mother, father, son). they are buying alcohol. per our posted policy, we proof EVERYONE. if you're in the group, we're proofing you (and if anyone is under 21, you're not buying...there are exceptions for a child with a parent, but that's about it. the only override is with a manager's approval).
so the cashier asks everyone for their ID, and the woman goes "I don't drink or smoke," and won't show her ID. the cashier shows the policy and explains it to the group, and the woman still refuses. the casher flashes her light to get a manager, and Rope-A-Dope sits there oblivious...the cashier goes over to get him and tells him everything. he says its okay, she doesn't have to show her ID and stands around (clueless again)
the woman goes to the cashier "You're a fucking bitch."
the cashier is "what did you say?"
the husband goes "Yeah, you're a fucking bitch."
yes, Rope-A-Dope is there....the cashier leaves upset.
what does Rope-A-Dope do? me, I would have told them to leave now. don't come back and voided their order (no alcohol sale for them...then again, when someone starts giving me trouble, I have no problems saying "Well, we have the right to deny you this sale for any to no reason at all....have a nice day, you can tell everyone with you why you felt the need to get everyone denied," and talk the beer and walk away. nope, he cashes them out and approves the alcohol sale.
when the casher comes back, he puts his hand on her shoulder and goes "When I tell you to approve the sale, just approve it."
well, Rope-A-Dope got yelled at by an STL, the Store Manager, and the Front-End Manager.

i used to be a front-end manager for a few years ...i'm with you, "...ya fuck with my crew? ...we don't need your business ...buh-bye". I'd have a long chat with the dope, too.

My view? If I were that chick, Id have no issues telling the STL how much of a dick he is. He has acted as though the customers behaviour was acceptable, then he can cop the same.
