kind of scary, 8 years ago today, I was sitting in a staff meeting. I was doing my best to seem interested when all I wanted to do was sleep....that or stare at the one RD who had nipples that could punch through steel.

then the phone rang, and the secretary told the Director that someone just flew into the World Trade Center. what? we turned on the TV.

I saw that day both towers collapse live. and the 2nd plane hit. the feeling of "holy shit, what just happened?"

the idea of what do I do now? I need to get back to my building, and tend to this crisis as best I can. what needs will I have to address for my students.

and more information came out. the Pentagon being hit....wait a minute, one of my best friends works for the government, is he okay (I chatted with him on-line later that night...he does not work near the Pentagon. he got to work and was met by a security guard with a shotgun who told him "Go home.").

yeah, it was a freaky day. and things since then. lives lost. in many ways. on that day and afterwards.

I remember hearing about how my uncle (at that time, still alive and a Red Cross volunteer....when he died, he was co-director of Disaster Relief for Western New York) seeing what happened, grabbing his stuff and leaving. he spent 2 weeks there. came back home and then back for another 2 weeks. all he said was "I'm handling things and seeing things I should never have to touch or see."

so many things came out of that day. England playing the US National Anthem instead of "God Save the Queen". you saw adult websites posting not their normal iimages, but something in rememberance. our country stopped that day...and when it returned, we came back with a vengence. grudges were buried for the greater purpose....remembering. you saw it everywhere.

so things have changed. and why I remember this stuff on such an odd anniversary date, 8 years later, I don't know.

but to those who lost their lives on that day and ever since then, protecting the precious freedoms I have, thank you. you are remembered.

for those who put their lives on the line every day to protect these same freedoms, thank you.

and those who argue against things, who talk about conspiracies and such....a big fuck you. we lost a lot that day....so get your head out of your ass. people died and are stll dying to give you the right to say such things...show the respect these peopel deserve.

thank you...tomorrow I'll probably post more. but today....I remmeber.

aldremech:
And it still pisses me off everytime I think about it. I lost a cousin who was a firefighter when the towers came down.
