thank you one and all for the birthday wishes. birthdays for me always seem kind of "bittersweet". never really have been dating someone during my birthday (maybe the start of a relationship), so all those "perks" you get....don't know what its like.
then again....ditto for Christmas, New Years, and Single Awareness Day. single throughout all those holidays for my entire life. guess I save money that way.
so birthdays are bittersweet. the other problem is, well, I have more friends here then I do around me in real life. by a long shot. my best friend in High School is in the DC area. he just got back from Australia. my best friend from college is in Minnesota. and a good friend growing up is in Pennsylvania. yup...no friends in the area. so either I spend my birthday with my family (joys) or alone. yay me, huh? oh well.
for my birthday...I got a t-shirt, a check, a few cards, and dinner. plus a guy who shops at my cousin's store wanted to buy the comics for me this week (I also copied 3 DVD's for him)....this week, I got one comic book at $3! he says he'll add next week's bill as well. works for me! oh, and the check is to buy myself a cookware set. the one I bought while away as an RD has been "assilimilated" by my family....yay!
so today was somewhat busy. I went to a conference sponsored by NYS-TEACHS on the McKinney-Vento Act. this act is a means to provide services for students who are homeless as well as guarantee them rights. the basic jist of the act? get the kid in school ASAP. normally you need documentation and such....with this act, nope. after all...if it could take a week or so to get the records, and the child can not be in school without those records....it could be a week or longer before the child is school again.
a quick visit to my cousin's store and home to cook dinner (spaghetti and sauce) and now I'm here. waiting for someone to show up in chat.
hmmm...so what else? woke up today to snow. the weather is up and down here....as to be expected. Wegmans is somewhat annoying....I've been told that the store manager wants part-time employees at no more than 30 hours. I will be working about 32 hours this week...and if I wasn't at the conference, I would have worked about 4 1/2 more hours today. yeesh!
so still working on finding a job. fingers crossed. and I have to figure out...where on my resume should I put the conferences I've been to? included in the conferences I've attended are the following:
New Student/Professional Conference
BOCES Planning Conference
SUNY Brockport Advisory Board meetings
New York State School Counselors Association (NYSSCA) conference (3 day conference)
2 times I've gone to the NYS-TEACHS McKinney-Vento workshops
so yeah....I think that should be on my resume as well! any suggestions?
and Ithink that's about it.
