wow, sign of the times.
as I don't talk about it, my family is unique in some ways. my mom, with her high blood pressure and bad knees is, well, the member of her siblings (she has 2 surviving sisters now) in the best shape. my one aunt ahs Wilson's Disease (her body does not eliminate copper....oh, BTW, corn is the only food with no copper in it) and my other aunt has Cerebral Palsley and mild to moderate Mental Retardation (her CP has also led to physical impairement).
well, the aunt with Wilson's Disease has to take a pill 3 times a day every day, at about $6 to $8 a pill, for her enitre life. right out of high school, her doctor helped her get a job at Xerox, where she worked for 38 years.
today, she was informed that her position is being eliminated and she is being let go. she will recieve one years salary and then is on her own. her doctor will probably get her a medical disability retirement or something. if you read up on Wilson's Disease, you will see that it can lead to various impairments. right now, my aunt is very jerky, her walk is impaired, and she is very difficult to understand.
but wow. she got fired.
her husband (20 years of marriage, 2 weeks of work....he has a "bad back"....mind you, he hunts, fishes, and drinks an obscene amount) is mad. he has a boat she is paying $1,000 a month for, for his "charter business". she told him "get a job or sell the boat." whoa, she stood up to him!
but still...wow, sign of the times.
and interestingly enough....Xerox is firing not bottom up (like most US companies), but top down. the high level execs are the first to go. interesting strategy.
so, time to get dressed, get something to eat, and off to work at Wegmans pushing carts for 4 1/2 hours in the snow!
