huge, unhappy, bitchy whiney rant, you're warned.
so, today, I got the call from Spencerport. as a way of keeping track, so far, for jobs I've applied for in the past 8 months or so (since around April 2008), I have:
16 full time school counselor positions (actually, that's just districts, some districts I applied to for more than one job).
at least 2 other positions outside of school counseling but in the schools applied for.
6 Higher Education jobs applied for
2 full-time jobs outside of education/youth services related applied for
3 long-term substitute counselor postions applied for.
of all those applications out there, I have recieved:
4 interviews from school districts for full-time positions
3 interviews for long-term sub positions
of those 7 interivews, I have been offered and accepted one long-term sub postion that lasted 5 1/2 weeks.
now, so far, for feedback, I have been given:
from one long-term sub positons:
-I dressed very well and presented myself very well
-I interviewed very good
-There was concern that my theoretical framework (Existential) might be a little too advanced for a Middle School student
now, the job I got rejected for today (long-term sub position):
-I dressed extremely well and presented mysefl extremely well.
-my interview was excellent
-I have excellent experience, espeically wtih special education populations
-I DID NOTHING WRONG
-but, they are going with someone who was a long-term sub for them last year.
so basically, it seems, I can't get a job, in part because I don't have experience. and I might not be able to get a job for long-term sub positon because I dont' have the experience.
so basically I can't get expeience!
fuck....seriously, I am looking at things, and wondering:
1. why did I leave higher education for this? is it really worth it?
2. should I even bother trying to get a job in the schools anymore? I've spent 1 year at least trying for jobs. or should I leave the damn field all together? probation or something?
3. why is it that people keep saying that schools want more counselors...BUT THERE ARE NO FUCKING JOBS OUT THERE?!?!?!?!?
honestly.
sorry, had to rant, its getting annoying. people keep telling me "Don't worry, you'll find a job eventually. The right one just hasn't come aroud yet."
well...I'm looking at the fact that I can not pay my student loans. I can barely pay my bills. anything goes wrong with my car and I'm screwed. whenever I happen to get money, the parasties I call family come around to "borrow" money.
so what am I supposed to do? seriously....I have one area I would love to get to...but right now, well, I don't know if I can. see, the problem is getting an apartment. you know...first and last month's rent plus deposit. since I can barely pay my bills, the likelihood of saving up a $1000 for something like that is pretty slim. family is of no use for that either. so I'm sitting here, spinning my wheels in this economically dead shit hole of an area. and no way out.
and everyone keeps telling me "Don't worry, it will look up. just wait," and "Why do you want to leave here, there is so much for you around here."
let's see....one person in this area I would call a friend. family that seems to burden me with quite a bit and happy to use me for things, but not help me.
no girlfriend, no hopes on the horizon, and well, stuck in a dead-end part time job. can't even get hired for a job asking for some college course work in Human Services (can't even get a call) when I use someone employed there as a reference and have 2 Masters degrees (one in Counseling, one in School Counseling) and a Bachelors in Psychology! seriously, WTF is up with that?
honestly, I guess I'm just frustrated. this bullshit I keep being told of "keep trying, something will come up, you'll see," and "You just haven't found the right job for you yet, that's all," is getting on my nerves to the point that the next person who tells me that I'm going to punch in the face, tell them to fuck off, and ask them how the fuck do they know all this bullshit, and if they are so fucking psychic, why not let me know before I waste the time, energy, and money applying for all these other jobs!
there, done. you were warned. do I feel better? no. but at least I wrote something down.
