well, my vacation has started. around 5 AM this morning, my mom and step-father started the drive to North Carolina to visit my younger sister. you see, the thing she married has come up here for another annual football game with his family. leaving her down in North Carolina by herself.
then again, she should be used to it by now. he seems to think marriage means going out pretty much every night. one time, while up here visiting, he made a comment about my younger sister not cooking. she proceeded to ask him what he was doing the night they got back to North Carolina. for pretty much the next 2 weeks, he had something EVERY SINGLE NIGHT....including the night they got back!
so what will I be doing? well, I get to work 2 overnight shifts. next week, I am working Wednesday morning and Thursday morning (ugh...I get to work from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM on freakin' Thanksgiving!
). the about 4 overnight shifts in a row. I'm still hoping to hear from the job I applied to. it would be nice. if nothing else, I get to work in a real paying job, get ahead of my bills instead of barely keeping my head above water, and move away to an area where I can expand out my job searching. yeah, that would be nice, wouldn't it?
as for when everyone is gone, I dunno....maybe vacuum the living room once. do dishes. towels are going good...maybe one more load will be ready to go in Sunday night. cook. for myself. keep things generally cleaned up.
you know...normal stuff.
although.....the one cupboard could use some shelving...hmmm.... ?

It's been over a decade since I was involved with academia, so things may have changed. Just my impressions.
Hmm, do you get OT for working Thanksgiving? Last time I had an hourly any holiday worked was automatically time and a half - two and a half if it put me over 40 for the week. I loved that.
