New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, how I love thee.....NOT!
here's the deal:
3 tickets leads to a Driver Responsibility Assessment of $450 I have to pay over 3 years.
well, I get an amount due of $200 in August.
I try paying, but the check bounces....DOH!
in September, I get a statement saying I have to pay $235 by October 15 or my license gets suspended. The payment is on-line, certified check, or money order.
well, I won't have the money until tomorrow, so there is not enough time to mail it. so I'm going to pay on-line.
only....
on-line, it says I have $0.00 minimal payment, and full payment of $250. okay?
then I check their automated phone system, and get the following message:
"Your license was suspended on. Your minimal amount owed is. Your transaction number is."
what? no date for the suspension, or minimal amount due, or transaction number? huh?
and on-line, it takes forever and a day to find someone. and I can't reach anyone by phone until Monday.
so, I guess here's what happens:
I get the money and pay $250 on-line tomorrow.
I print everything out.
I wait 5 days for a response.
and I call later if I don't get one!
and I make sure to hold onto the letter and transaction information, so if I'm told that my license is suspended, I go to court, go to the judge, and say "Your honor, I would like to present to you the letter I received from the DMV saying my license would be suspended if I did not pay by October 15 and the transaction code for an on-line payment on October 14th for the minimal payment and $15 more due to their system only allowing me to pay $250, and not the $235 stated." and see what happens.
f*ckers!
