today was oh so fun, let me tell you! I get a phone call around 10 or so (I am awake, thankfully). its my job. they want people in early, due to the high winds, and want to know if I want to come in at 2:30 instead of 5:30. then offer to pay me "show for dough" ($1 an hour extra for my pay). sure. although it also meant that I worked 8 hours (unpaid 1/2 lunch, 2 paid 15 minute breaks that I only took one) today. outside.
in the wind. where the extremely stupid people that seem to populate this area do not realize cause carts to fly around, especially if they are not put in a cart rack, but instead left in the parking lot. morons!
then we had to move a few signs in, including the Fire Lane signs. which everyone seemed to turn into a dropping off/picking up/running in quickly lane. and our reserves of carts are there. so I got to navigate that!
then, the person who was suppose to come and work 5 to 9 (and a good worker) didn't show. he said he didn't know. so I got to work until 8 PM with a kid who I call "Follow Me" since he seems to follow people everywhere. which is annoying. and he's not that good! and then from 8 PM to 11 PM by myself....yes, on a busy, windy night! joys!
well, I did get everything done. carts in, a sweep of the vestibule. things organized. and put the Fire Lane signs out as well.
now I just have to figure out a way to get carts to ram into the cars of the people who leave them in the parking lot (especially those who watch their cart hit another car....
) . and hopefully people realize about the fire lane...or the police/parking enforcement people come around and write a butt load of tickets!
and that was my day!
how was yours?
I'm off to sleep now, I get to work tomorrow from 11:30 AM to 5 PM. yay!
and so far, damage from the 60+ MPH winds we had today:
our garbage can. we think someone in the neighborhood thought it was theirs and took it. after all, my mom watched some lady take it. wonder why she didn't say anything to her. well, besides the fact that would have taken energy, movement, and effort. my mom doesn't like to do much of anything!
part of the big "Wegmans" letters blew off our building. part of the W (its a plastic of some kind) blew off, landing. we have 2 big pieces. several of the smaller pieces went to another parking lot.
we ended up moving some of the cart racks towards the building, since they were blowing into cars. and yes, people used those racks! considering that we have people who move construction tape to put their carts in a construction area, I'm not surprised! as if they don't notice the heavy equipment or something!
so, what about your life?
