so my semester is winding to a close, I have 2 reaction papers to do this weekend and then I'm done.
my "internship" has been interesting. I say "internship" because all I've been doing is observing and asking questions. even told this past day when I asked "Hey, if I have some ideas in this meeting, is it appropriate for me to say something" (I'm big on roles and what they're suppose to be). I was told "Hmm, hmm....considering that you're here for observations, I think it is appropriate for you to watch and observe, and not add anything unless you really have something to say." yet another counselor there has told me "If you have something to add, please, feel free. make sure its appropriate. you know, if you disagree with something, don't say it in front of the student. but otherwise, please do!"
nice.
yet I was told that I need to work on the social aspect of things. the talking and greeting people.
I'm just lost, what exactly is my role there?
and on my evaluation, my "supervisor" (who I shadowed for 2 weeks, and I've had 1 supervision meeting with) writes down "I wonder if School Counseling is an appropriate career for him." after telling me that she sees me as being better in a therapeutic setting, such as a private counseling center.
WTF is up with that? 'cause I'm not Mr. Social Butterfly? then again, with the role I'm in, what am I supposed to be?
oh well. so I have a meeting on Tuesday to come up with a plan to address this, and then another supervision meeting on Wednesday (which was planned a while ago, so I'm not surprised).
good thing I'm in my first of four semester. yes, I have a counseling degree already, so I know the theories and such. however, when it comes to schools, there's quite a bit I don't know (such as the regulations and such). you know, those things I'm going to Grad School for right now.
so that's always fun.
but, then again, I was told that the intern last year at the same place had a very negative experience as well. all this at a High School that calls itself an Academy, and seems to focus on college only!
nice....NOT!
outside of that, pretty good. I've had fun in my other classes. Conflict Management was fun, considering I was the only male in the class (female instructor too!). but I did do a lot of talking and adding and commenting on things. I was social there.
sooo, do you think this is from me being too socially inempt and shy? or perhaps the setting I was in? or even the fact that I have no clue what my role is there, and no one else does either?
and I got a job...working at Wegmans now, "Helping Hands" and Cashier. yay for money. now time to get that tattoo!
