I’ve been single now for nearly four years and I don’t mind the single life.
Society seems to place so much weight on what it is to be single for a long time (or indeed at all), people seem to think there’s something wrong with you, like you’re damaged goods.
They sometimes might go further than that.
If you’re single that must mean you’re unlovable.
It’s convenient for me to be on my own — I only have myself to think of when making tough decisions.
Since I am unwell, I can’t cope with too much stress. Whenever someone challenges my right to be single, and points their finger at me because I won’t do as I’m told, I lose my shit.
That is am example of why I choose to stay single; I don’t yet feel ready for the commitment of a relationship.
I don’t enjoy going out because I feel like others are judging me. The anxiety gets too much and I can’t function socially under those circumstances.
I believe it’s a bad idea to get into a relationship for the wrong reasons. If I feel like I’m doing it because I’m expected to rather than willingly, the love will be forced.
I’d rather cultivate relationships with those I have chosen myself and not chosen for me.
I’m looking for something meaningful that will last and won’t be destructive, or nothing at all. I’m not afraid of “dying alone”. I’m satisfied with my life and don’t feel lonely.
So maybe I don’t live up to other people’s expectations... but I don’t mind, I’m fine the way I am!
