Yesterday I went to a meeting of this local transit group. Among other projets, they agitate for a ring metro line. On the way to the meeting, I saw a nifty little battle memorial from the Civil War. It was the only time the Confederacy entered DC, in 1864. It had an anecdote about Lincoln visiting the battlefield, and I immediately remembered an illustration of...

The new King Arthur has no Nimue, or magic of any kind, for that matter. Also, Lancelot does nothing to make me think he's the best knight in the world.
In other news, I enjoy the low specific heat of asphalt. I had to run errands early for a Saturday, so the trees' shadows were fairly long when I went out. Convection did the rest,...

Thanks for the suggestions.
Today has been very eventful. I came far too close to learning what fainting feels like. It was even worse than the time I had vertigo! Then I got a fun workout moving stuff to deal with a spot of flooding.
On the bright side, Spiderman 2 was okay, and I finished a book. Also, my premonition that the three way interaction of *-07-04, DC,...

Yes, that used to be a fairly common problem, but some of the remarks I've noticed are coming from people who've been around long enough to know better.

I don't recall seeing blue robes. In the end, we decided to make our own - a sort of anti-archbishop's robe, though it could be mistaken for a cardinal's robe at a distance. (Archbishops get black robes with red piping. This will be a red cassock with black details.)
What exactly do you mean by a runny eggless omlet? Sounds like salsa with cheese chunks and spinach to me.

Hooray for subsidized commuting! This quarter's farecards came in the mail yesterday. Fiddling around with them, I realized that they were a different style than the last few issues, so I checked out my local system. I didn't notice anything about the new look, but Sunday last, the powers that be raised the subway fares. (For those with mass transit systems that don't cross state...

Is there a childbirth association with Hecate?
llona:
yeah, i've read all that. And she does look awfully witchy, what with the pointy hat and broom and all.
Do you know about Bemata? Hindu goddess protector of midwives.
I'm interested in the specific protections afforded to birth attendants in other cultures.

Cropping a press release into a news submission isn't worth 5 points, even as an insomnia cure. Particularly when the X Javascript window locked my browser, forcing me to kill mozilla, and lose the submission.

I suppose I've just found so much to do there I read less in Baltimore.

Thanks for the kick in the pants to get back to writing it. Actually, you're stil in scene 2, but the dinner part is past. Update is in SG:NHS.
Holy explosive-growth-well-above-replacement-rates, Batman! My plan to thin out my library via a two books out for every one in policy has been a dismal failure. A combination of awesome authors touring through DC and a tax refund that was largely funneled to Amazon have been to blame.

My walk home through a dark and misty little woods has convinced me the firefly is far superior to the cicada. Also superior to snow.
About two weeks ago, I mentioned a book talk I saw; it's airing at noon on BookTV this weekend. If David Brooks' talk is taped tomorrow, I might be seen again.
Looking at their lineup, I'm going to have to ask a friend to capture Jane Jacobs for me.

I've been to teaism! It was nice. Try the ginger scones.
The weather was wonderful yesterday, but thank God the day length is moving towards equality again.
