This past week was somewhat blah.

The book talk for What's the Matter With Kansas? was fun, and the rhetoric was pretty fiery. Check it out on BookTV. There's a chance the camer got a pic of me; I'm the guy on the speakers right, leaning against the pillar.

Indeed, it is not far off the mark from his book, in some respects. The drama is so much more though, but it will be like that in any small, remote mining town. smile Trapped with people, booze, and boredum. As you can well imagine what can ensue.

I promise, someday, to write about why I don't have a real avatar . But not today. Maybe when I can make it sound like something other than excuse making bullshit.

You can but not name him... I could name him. Or just have a goofy name.
Is there a pre-gen anywhere I can use?

I like to see who I'm talking to. I urge you to consider using a real picture of yourself.

As I was out and about, I saw a book I was expecting soon (the latest from The Millionaire Next Door series). Now I'm reminded to check on Kim Robinson, Richard Florida, and the Kinkster.

Also, I have to call my sister. I've been a slack brother by ignoring a letter she wrote.

My last entry was petty. I checked Powell's out again today, and saw some authors who are going to be at my local independents before they get there, so there's hope for getting JJ's autograph yet, I guess. Huzzah!

Only in Hollywood can an iron weapon/bronze armor culture conduct a massive amphibious invasion and raze a regional superpower in the span of about three weeks....

Oh, and use standard point gen. I know a 15 or 16 as a top score fails to be sexy and exciting, but everyone else will be on the same footing as you and the challenges will suit.

I aspire to be such a fabulous head librarian that I, too, am worthy of an action figure.

I am so jealous of the PDXers. Powell's is hosting Jane Jacobs, a railroad travelogue, and a book on the post oil age on Thursday, Friday and Monday. At least my local is often on TV.

Hey, wait a minute!

Agree with your rec of "Your Money or Your Life" in the "financial situation" thread... great book. Have you read "The Millionaire Next Door"? Complementary theme.

My current avatar is from neither Ultima V nor SNES but this inspiring labor of love.

Wow. I've just had so much sleep I feel like a new man.

Now I think I'll go clean until the post office opens; I'm expecting a package from A.c.

Not much going on. Monday, I was at this economist's book talk. He predicts a major depression or other shock based on present value calculations of expenses vs. revenues. I found it ominous.
flux:
Just apply, friend, and you are in.

Most everything here is open on Sundays, just not all night. I would like for that to change.

Yes, Metro Atlanta (beyond the city limits) is as bad as Kunstler painted and worse. The city itself has an adequate foundation for better development, whether or not Atlanta is made into a great city is up for grabs. Right now we have an infrastructure layout from pre-sprawl planning, but the fringes of our urban core have a kind of proto-sprawl planning. This follows, because our downtown pre-dates WWII and the city fringe to the city limits were once considered suburbs. Indeed, many present day parts of Atlanta were annexed into the city.

Atlanta's problems with planning stem from very poor race relations, which are still a significant problem if not the central problem. The city collapsed due to white flight long ago and now is threatened again by white gentrification. You seem to have some urban planning background, so I'll assume you're familiar with the impacts of an overly-enfranchised populations' withdrawl or insertion.

So next week will be my twelth month of this YMOYL expense tracking project. I'm mostly looking forward to it, but my lack of purpose has me down. Now that I have a regular job and am out of school, I've realized my life is lacking in meaning and purpose.

Well, not exactly. For a long time now I've thought that the meaning of life...
