Another day, another book. This and movie watching is what vacations should be about, when you can't afford to travel.
Deadly Beloved was a good time. The main character,
Ms. Tree (get it? Mystery?) ruled. A tough, hot bitch that pulls her gun out of her handbag way too many times in the span of one day. Apparently there have been Ms. Tree comic books available for years, and the character already has a noir/crime following.
This book (and the comic books) star characters named Ms. Tree, Chic Steele, and Rafe Valer. Max Allan Collins's love of the silly and love of the genre itself is clear throughout the book, as baddass Ms. Tree struggles to avenge her murdered husband and take down the Muerta Mob Syndicate with the help of the Tree
This book was a blast. Stuff like this is great between the heavy duty books.

AS FOR ME--
I woke up this morning full of energy so I went to the grocery store. I was there by 7:30 am and back by about 8:30. I spent a whole mess of money but then we haven't had food in this apartment in about two weeks. The cats were out of food and kitty litter, and they were beginning to complain. A lot.
I hit the Publix and it took me like three trips up and down stairs just to get the food into the apartment. Good thing I got change for the washers/dryers here because when I arrived Lola had peed the bed. This totally winded me. After rubbing her face in the stain, shouting at her, and tossing her a few feet, I put everything to wash and put away all the food.
Now I need to leave again. Being here all day-- it's not what I should be doing. My wrists hurt from being on this computer and I'm going stir-crazy.
Okay.
