Besides 'A year in the states on the cheap sounds like the greates balg ever' what other reasons do I have for wanting to take American Studies at Sussex? Any ideas? I need a paragraph on it soon and I'm stumped, I just thought it sounded cool when I picked it as one of my choices. I'm pretty sure that's not what they want to here though.

If I can get it done before I get the train down to Portsmouth I shall have extra drinks because I will have earned them

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, it has been a manic week at work and Ive barely had time to sit down.

I want to take American Studies at the University of Sussex because of the incredible breadth of the course. American culture has always fascinated me, the art it creates and the very ideals of its founding seem to me to be amongst the greatest achievements of humankind. It amazes me that a country with so much good enshrined at its very heart should be capable of so much that appears evil to European eyes be it through its use of might abroad or religious extremism at home. To study and attempt to understand these contradictions would be an incredible experience and the chance to spend a year there is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
