I guess it's one of those "only in America" debates.
The religious right has been trying to teach creationism in schools for as long as I can remember. (note the monkey scopes trial... circa 1928.)
(ok, well that's alittle far back from my memory,)
But the point is, that science is on the losing end of the battle.
Most recent was the battle over intelligent design which is essentially barely concealed creationism. Apparently the concept of scientific inquiry is on the losing side to the concept of God Almighty.
(I wonder if these people who are backing this know that asprin comes from inside the bark of the willow tree...)

Well while you are trying to teach creationism in schools we in England have just had (yesterday) the first church sectioned gay wedding (remember that this is a national religion "The C of E" better know as the church of England) not just one little chapel in the middle of LA. it was Elton John and his partner. Thinking about this we are going to have to come up with a new word, they are no longer partners and the can be husband and husband. What do you think?

Good stuff! Its nice to see that the whole can support two individuals who want to be together who aren't heterosexual. Americans have refused to consider that love can take many forms... They are so blinded by the set way of doing things that they've denied anyone different from themselves any type of legal rights at all... I remember when I lived in california the state denyed same sex couples and "lifetime partners" next of kin rights.It's sad really.
And the musician and film maker are married. I suppose one will refer to the other as such.(I wonder if one will take the other's name???)
As a side note, since moving here, I've been asked more times than I can count if I'm married and then when I say no, I"m asked why not???
... Somtimes there just is no answer.
Anyways, that's all for the moement... i've been distracted by lunch and a growling tummy doesn't translate well onto the screen. Lunch is a tofu salad with a spanish flair! yum!

Zola is a kitty...
SHe finds me everytime I walk through the door of the shop and pesters me the whole time... Somtimes she's abit snippy and I get bitten but it's usually because I've been petting her the wrong way... (kitties are silly like that)
DAMNIT!
one of my favorite SG people just went grey.

I really like being up this way... I'm more myself than I have ever been...

The Solstice Gathering was really nice - though some are still digging out of their homes. We have a simple, rather generic, ceremony and had a few words from our friends who were costumed as the "Holly King" and the "Snow Queen" (actually Rhiannon). We have an eclectic group of friends and try to honor different traditions.
Our poor mainstream neighbors have no idea what to make of us. We like keeping them mystified.
