Being part of the older end of SGs (my thirties aren’t going well so far 😂), there’s a lot that younger people have never experienced or would recognise from my childhood.
Probably the most horrific memory from my childhood was our fashion. All the rage was the shell suit...
I was born before commercial internet, we actually had the military intranet until I was 3 or 4 and were one of the first households to have internet when it was integrated commercially.
I did my homework in primary school using encylopedia’s and cd roms. My computer games were on floppy discs.
My first computer was a BBC Computer, which compared to machines nowadays is monstrous.
It’s weird to look back and see how far we have come technologically since I was born. When I was a kid megabytes seemed huge and now we talk about terabytes as a standard. It’s nice when you see nods to nostalgia like the game snake now an app on iPhones, or tamagotchi style pet games.
As a mum I’m trying to find the balance for my son between using computers and books to find information. Technology is an amazing part of our lives but imagine what we would do if it suddenly disappeared?
