I was walking the kids to the park one day, and M., a grade 6 student, picked up a table top out of the garbage. It was big and unruly and I told him to leave it in the garbage, but he insisted and I'm not his full time teacher so I let hime take it to the park where he promptly threw it away. When we were leaving the park he picked it up again and I told him to drop it. He didn't and I realized I had fucked up by not insisting earlier. So, on the way back to school, M. uses the table to pick up dog shit and tries to wipe it on a grade 2 kid. I ran over and yelled at M. to put the table down. He wouldn't and I grabbed the table and we started playing tug of war with it. And there I was on one of the busiest streets in Cape verde trying to wrestle a shit covered table from a 12 year old. I wondered if I was in the right profession. I still wonder....

This is the letter (spelling mistakes and all) that I got a few days later :

"Dear Minky

I am sorry if I made it hard for you on Monday. I know that it made kids crazy about the pooh thing and it could have bee dagerous if I had droped it. I am sorry for running away. It must have been hard to take care of kids.

I'm sorry,
M."
