Boy, I've been a member for almost 2 years and i never noticed all the little tabs by my username and pics and that. I do not think that any of that was there before that big format update some months ago. Well, my new and improved profile is up, tada.

I read somewhere that Stargate is for sure on its final season, makes me a little bit sad, it was/is a great show with a pretty good realism factor and a great story. I will say though, that while i have not grown tired of watching it, the show i think has run its course, the Gou'ld are all but defeated and there is peace at last, but for a new enemy.

I guess that while i am talking about television, of which i do not watch much at all, i might as well talk about the few shows that actually hooked me, mostly sci-fi

Farscape: A friend of mine from Scotland got me hooked on this, realistic, real characters, funny.

Babylon 5: I think that B5 is my most favorite television show of all time, as well as the one that has had the most impact on me. It seems that every time i watch it, especially considering the events of the last 6 or so years, i find new meaning and a new aptness for the subject matter. You know, the president of Earth has overstepped his bounds and taken over, after assassinating the man the rightfully won the vote. Too much to go over here, just watch it and prepare for a great story. It is gritty, completely believable, not the same old holier than thou crap you get with star trek.

As for star trek, i have been a Trekkie for all of my life, i can remember when i was a kid, my parents would actually sit down together and watch star trek (it was always weird for dad to sit down and watch TV at that time). I begged them for months, and finally they let me stay up and watch it with them, i was hooked for life. As i aged, i watched TOS and loved that too. In fact, up until recently there was always a new Star Trek in my life, right up until Enterprise ended a few years ago.

I know that it sounds kind of lame, but in a lot of ways, Star Trek shaped my life. It was Picard, and then Sisko, both of whom held to the ideal that right is right, no matter what and no matter the cost. It had a very profound effect on the way that i look at the world, even if sometimes i cannot quite hold that standard.

I remember Picard quoting Jefferson, "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance." That never meant anything to me until i watched that episode recently and though, "goddamn is that ever true." The fucking Bushies and neocons would take that to mean that we must be alert from threats from without, those of us that know better, know that it is better meant to be directed to threats from within.

Anyways, when Trek went off the air for the last time, it felt like i was loosing an old friend that i kind of thought would always be there, and in a lot of ways, i did. Since i was never a popular or outgoing kid, i tended get my dose of humanity from my teachers, and yes, Star Trek. Whenever shit got too bad, i would always think, someday, if we are lucky, we will all live in a world of Trek, where people work together, for the betterment of all, and not for personal or corporate gain.

I still hope for that today, though in my naivety i saw it as a lot more realistic back then than what i do now. I am rambling, stupid ADD. It seems to me that TV has taken a turn for the worse as of late, same as kids tv shows, but that is for a time when i can focus a little more.

Oh, and with this heater blowing under the blankets, my feet are sooooo much warmer.
