Did you manage to catch the Distillers at 9:30 in DC two weeks ago? Pretty legit show.

There is an art exhibit in Pittsburgh featuring one of my favs: James Turrell. He works with perception and light, literally sculpting light. Not like Judith Said-Cook, who makes aesthetically pleasing formations with light, but rather, Turrell creates architectural forms with light. It is really quite an experience. The problem is that Pitt is 6 hours away and I don't have a car. Time to...

Who is 'making waves' in rock right now? Timbaaland and Missy Elliott are still doing it. The Neptunes. I'd love to say that the Distillers are, but they are a just a great punk band...btw, see them if you haven't yet. It ain't Avril or Justin, I hate to tell ya.

When is Trent Reznor going to put out another album? Please save me from...

This weekend I'm going to a log cabin in rural Virginia. It is on a horse farm and I think it may snow before I go, so I might get some good sledding action in!

Here is a dork in uniform! This was taken in Orlando in 1996, when I was a youngin'. Does it get any dweebier than someone like me? Yikes!

Harry Shearer...

Let's see if this adds to what I've already written...

What do you have in your CD player right now? I've got best of Janis Joplin, Audioslave, 50 Years of Dischord, Philip Glass Dracula, and DJ Shadow in there.

Guten Nacht!

for every roghtko, there was a dali. i freaking HATE Dali. his wee beady eyes *shakes fist at Dali paintings*

I wish it was 50 years of Dischord. I didn't manage to get to review that so i have to buy it myself. my editor hordes all the notable good stuff.

cyndi lauper. finally someone else who considers her "bad".

My cd player is small, but in my car i have lods of great stuff. unfortunately, mondays and tuesdays are filled with stuff to review which is often forgettable (as is the case when you get to the bottom of the box i get every couple of months). Today it was Hello Amsterdam (crap), Tim Oxley (good) Box Four (good) and the Red Bennies (swoon).

Ok, i can't hink of anything clever to write.

a jug, a zen pillow, a box, a head, a fan.

i like the idea of cycles. i wish i could live 1000 years just to see everything cycel: life, fashion, culture, music, visual art, dating practices, body types.

that grant is only offered at BYu, but man was i lucky to hear about it.

i love the chumps who say that studying music and actually learning how to play their respective instruments sucks the life out of things. however, it does lose some of the mysetery once you figure out how to do it yourself. that is why much of indie-rock makes me le bored.

New pic, still goofing with my camera.

John Rockwell proposes that Rock is cyclical...following a life-death cycle. He claims that, after Rock's birth in the 50's, it went through a youthful exhuberance, a maturing period (folk rock, Dylan, Acid Rock) and then grew old, corrupted and dead (Corporate Rock and especially Art Rock - Pink Floyd, Emerson Lake and Palmer, etc). Punk Rock ressurrected Rock...

Tonight was themed party hosted by a friend.

The theme was 'Let's get tricksy' and was loosely based on LOTR. I dressed as Tolkein and brought a sword and a LOTR Goblet from Burger King. I was the ONLY one who stuck to the theme! Oh, well.

A crush was there with someone else. That stunk, but I managed to pretend to skewer him on...

nerd alert, nerd alert. hehe. you got all dressed up for nothing. so who is the bigger ggek: you or everyone for not sticking with the theme? i want one of those swords.

wouldn't it be great to be able to duel people? i always imagine a day like in back to the future two when lawyers are outlawed.

i'm a merzbow respect person. i listen like i listen to eliott carter...very carefully and when i am able to give full attention to him. every time i sit down with an EC score, i am baffled. i can never see all the relationships until someone points them out. i get through like six measures before i saw bugger all. boulez too only i enjoy listening to him more.

sorry about that crush. sigh.

so, let me remix you? viece versa.

Recently seen in Baltimore: A man wearing a robot suit that he made out of cardbaord.

When asked how long it took him to make, he replied (in a metallically dramatic voice):

One

billion

years.

and then walked away.

yes, that is miguel dePedro aka Kid 606. I talked to him outside a sold out show in san fran last week. no one knew who he was. they all wanted to see the melvins. i secretly taped my chat with him on my mini-disc. i taped some sounds on the streets of san fran too for a new piece i'm working on.

ok, to bed with me. argh

Okee dokee. It is late, I didn't get pretty much anything done. Suffered through Boogie Nights with a roommate who hadn't seen it. I hadn't seen it since before Magnolia came out and I was surprised at how similiar in style the two are.

I've been reading other people's journals and just want to say that they are really great! I'm amazed at how open...

Does anyone have a Chipotle near them? Ours has been open for a couple years and, much to my chagrin, I can't seem to reduce my burrito intake. I mean, the thing must weigh 3 pounds, impossible to eat in one sitting, but yet I torture myself by attempting to eat the darn thing.

The good part is that I can get it veggie, so...

who's the ubergeek now?

kid_607_evil_ins:
hehe. he touched my back and shook my hand after the meeting. he *offerd* me his hand first!! i saw him at a gaming convention and i ran up and asked for a pic. he was totally nice about it and really friendly. he was there promoting the music to Doom 3 so he was proly in a good mood.

i am currently writing a little thing on MManson, defending to the indie-mag i write for why AntiChrist Superstar is such a great disc. trent and sean beaven's influence knows no bounds. have you heard the band Prick on Nothing records? check it out. trent was in *his* band. i'll give you the history on it if you don;t already know it. realy cool.

Latest news from the greater DC area:

The first baby born in DC in 2003 was born to a Lesbian couple! When asked by a reporter to see the mother, Joanna Bare replied "Sure. Which mother would you like?" (Joanna is one of the mothers).

What else? Let's see...right now I'm listening to an all time fave: Fugazi "Repeater". Later tonight I'm popping in "Easy...

um. yeah. we're only seperated by coasts. i'm on the academic route with a rock background. i focus on electronics (such a cute word) in a live setting. and i don't mean house music hehe. my nic is DJ Webern, but i rarely use it around here cos most don't get it or know how to pronounce etc. Webern's Opus 5 is the piece that changed my life. George Crumb's Black Angels sealed the deal (oo, i just met him at Chico State at a premiere of a couple of his works). i'm really into Christian Marclay lately, his methodology. today in my class we discussed the ondes martenot and theremin's influence in Western Art Music.

but i learned orchestration from depeche mode and credit Bauhaus for sparking the interest in music.

ok, now we've laid the groundwork, we can fight. jk.

glad to know you. keep it coming.

damn. i'm just so happy to see the word "electroacoustic"...i might wet myself.

seriously. so i imagine you walk that line. you know, the one were you feel both *at* and *out of* place at academic conventions and rock venues. somewhere in between. BYU is stuck in a pre-modern thing while the University of Utah is stuck in a post-modern dealy. it causes me grief.

i hate the word rock. let's patent a new one.
