today I have, for the most part, finished my heretofore magnum opus. Its a peice I started back in november or december of '01, one of the very first things I started writing. I always knew it had mad potential but it always eluded me.
until now. over the last couple of days I've scrapped the mess that was the first half of the song and wrote a whole new begining for it and its perfect--exactly what I was looking for. Isn't it amazing how months of tinkering cannot accomplish what one or two moments of inspiration can?
All of the major arranging is finished, its just down to the details.
and there's a lot of details. Its by far the most technically difficult song I've got. I play and I can't beleive that I'm capable of doing all that.
In addition to being complex to play, I thinks its got some really good melody, almost epic. Some parts sound very traditional, in the beginning its almost Irish sounding, but much it is fierce and fast and angry, there is a sense of loss and loneliness and longing for lost greatness.
blah blah blah. I sound rediculous, but its just cus I really am very stoked right now.
when will you hear it? I don't know it may be a while before I can record it and deffinately a while before I'm capable of confidently playing it in front of people.
