My friend Erik asked me to help him shoot a small charity fashion shoot in honor of his father-in-law, who worked in cancer research. It wasn't a paid gig, and the event was a little rushed, so there wasn't any sort of compensation, aside from maybe a few drinks afterwards with a friend.
The lighting could not have been worse, since they shut off the ambient lights in the room and instead hired a guy to control concert-style lighting and he couldn't be bothered to direct the lights on the models or speakers at the podium beforehand. Having to increase the camera's ISO to ridiculous levels and fighting the autofocus system which really struggled to find the model. I managed to get all the right shots but it's definitely scary when you're in the weeds and need to be on point the entire time.
Regardless of the photography struggles seeing all these people gather together because of the efforts of one man, who touched all of them in some way or another, either as patients, family, or their common culture it was endearing to say the least.
