I wrote this a long long time ago and figured it may not be all that good but it should see the light of day somewhere
Spotlight
This movie is one the greatest movies if not the greatest movies I have seen grace the theaters for some time. When I heard there was a movie coming out that had the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton) made a movie together I just had to go see it, but then I saw the rest of the star studded cast with Rachel McAdams, Live Schreiber, John Slattery, and Stanley Tucci. The acting in this movie is outstanding and these are some of the best performances I have seen out of these actors. I could write a large review on just the acting and how you the view get attached to each of the characters and how they all even each other out, that would have been impossible without a director that is prepared for these amazing actors.
The director, Tom McCarthy, hasn’t done much as a director (Spotlight only being his fifth movie he has directed) he does an amazing job making sure not one of these stars over power the others. He handles this movie as if he had been doing this his whole life and if this is a clue of anything to come he will make some great movie I can’t wait to see. The writers for this movie had a massive challenge to turn a story about writing a story about something as horrific as pedophiles is no easy task, but they meet the challenge and made it a story that even if you have an idea of what happens makes you want to stay to the end and attaches you to the characters and how they affect the story.
Now the story its-self starts in a police department in the 70’s where you see a priest talking to a family and a couple of children who look extremely sad and are coloring. At the end of the scene you find out the priest molested the kids and is going to get of free (also some other information that I won’t ruin). The way this one scene is done sets the tone and the stage for what is going to be a great ride, for what is a 2 hour movie it is extremely evenly paced and there not part of the movie where I went “wow this is really dragged on”. The end has a perfect ending were all lose ends are tied up and it is so satisfying to the viewer and there is some other stuff after the movie that that is extremely surprising (again I won’t ruin it for you). It is not a fast paced high action movie but in the end of the day I have to say this is one of if not the best movie I saw all 2015 and I highly recommend you all see it when you get a chance.
