That episode on general might be the apex of the series. Too bad it set the bar so high, as nothing even remotely similar in comedy caliber has been produced by Seth McFarland since.

I've tried... but I just can't do Family Guy. I love me some Simpsons, so maybe I'm biased?? I just can't do it. tongue

How's the world from your point of view these days??

Speaking of pimping, i'm involved with this youtube video project where we riff on old short movies a la MST3K (Mystery Science Theater 3000). My first project with them was this short....

Part 1

Part 2

I did some writing for it. If you like it, please go ahead and comment on it over at youtube. iI's pretty silly, but all in good fun. I...

Continuing from my last journal ---

Ok, now as I've promised, are highlights of the Philly Live Aid show at JFK -

The Pretenders -> Back On The Chain Gang

Easily my favorite Pretenders song, I love it when the crowd comes in early with the vocals.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - American Girl

Tell me, why did Ben Franklin glasses ever go...

Good pic here
I'm pretty sure you'll want to check out this Patti Smith new album release info!!! Wonder if a tour may follow. She's doing some art exhibits in NYC & boston, I think, but I don't know about shows. But how about this album news coinciding with her upcoming Hall of Fame induction with REM!!!!!
divinetrash:
Ha, that was great. I love the end when the singer/guitarist is trying so hard to strum that same chord. The song is really cool though. I love that weird old garage type music, especially if there's an organ present. smile

Ok, so over the years I have become more and more obsessed with the Live Aid show(s) back in '85. So many big names, such a huge live audience (at both Wembley and JFK), and so many crazy moments. I thought I would compile a bunch of highlights from the show for those of you who haven't seen it. The DVD is a must-buy for...

What do I want for Christmas?

Tangerine wink

How about you?

Seriously though, I wish you all the happiest and safest of holidays I probably won't be updating again 'til after the New Year (or 'til the beginning, however that works), but I'll still be peaking my head in from time to time. So, as my friend Murph used to say, "Don'tcha go changin'." biggrin

Merry Christmas. Played a short Happy Hour set today - gout has crippled my left hand which is the size of downtown Los Angeles about now, but felt I should try to lift the sprits of the other losers at the bar on Christmas who'd just heard about James Brown (setlist in my journal) - I wanted to play another James Brown song and the Eagles' Please Come Home For Christmas and a version of White Christmas similar to Lou Reed's but solo acoustified.

I got a can of mixed nuts from my Mom for Christmas and an obscene offer from my ex, but the best present is that one of my 3 nephews in Iraq is home for a few weeks and will actually be here in FL for a few days tomorrow or Wednesday, I think.

Kinda wiped out now, but briefly for now before I pass out, guess who I met tonight. I got a call late this afternoon to get to Mt. Dora (a little town an hour or so away) to help with a fundraiser to restore the 1929 Community Center (I belong to a Florida historical preservation society) which is to become a much needed center for the arts. Had I known more about the endeavor in advance, I'd have taped it. I knew nothing of the event until an hour & a half before showtime, though. You'll never guess who turned out to be the musical sponsor.

Well, maybe you would. I wouldn't have. I don't know what his link to this area is.

A hint: I just got an autograph from someone with the initials RM. At one time the initials were JM.

The show had some surprises. I'll tell ya later.

Never knew McGuinn played piano. Starting to get it together - was so wiped out from lack of sleep this weekend and my sinuses were so congested if mucus were useful as a fuel I'd be independently wealthy.

um, so i've decided that The Toxic Avenger 2 she be a part of each and every Film 101 course taught. I'm not quite sure why, but I think it just needs to be seen.

I thought all the questions were answered in The Toxic Avenger. ?

No I didn't see the press briefing (or even the network nightly news, which is appointment viewing for me) but I'm not surprised. The excerpts of the new Woodward book which were in Newsweek read like a hatchet job, it made him seem like a water-cooler tyrant of the worst sort.

One of the guys who is part owner of a brokerage house I used to work for proudly dropped Rumsfeld's name when he was appointed Defense Sec'y back in '00 (at the time, my former boss and Rumsfeld were neighbors in some high-end condo building right near the lakefront, just off Lake Shore Drive). I doubt he's trumpeting that connection as much these days.
