Since the response to my last Journal was so overwhelming (wow! such an outpouring) I figured I'd ramble on here about Pavement the Rock Band.
What is there I cannot say about Pavement the Rock Band? Well, I can't say they ever won a video award. Or got much radio play. But what is there to say about a masterful grunged-out prog riff like in "The Hexx"? Or the sunny-day perfection of "Date with Ikea"? The roast was just so perfectly prepared. One day Malkmus will dream, dream, dream, dream, the next he will fly away, away, away, away to a land with more grave architecture and second-hand conduits. Half a canyon is just a cliff... and there's 40 different shades of black. Unlike Britney in Vegas, he doesn't need a minister to call him a bride; he knows he'll never go. They got the money... they got the money... he's a saint, because his capital S is followed by a tea, with spritzer on ice in NYC, where the debutante's crip drips bloods on the basement stairs (he has a cyst). John and Yoko gave him too much Milk & Honey because he was steppin' out on a day mama didn't tell him about. Pavement Boy, meanwhile, has been unnecessarily maligned by editors everywhere; what, just jealous of his star turn on Strangers with Candy?? So cruelly he kissed Amy Sedaris, and never felt betterrrrr in hiiiiis liiiiiiiife. Ooh ooh oo-ooh oo-oooooh, ooh ooh oo-ooh oo-oooh oooh oooh, they've pulled the plugs and snorted it up and shot the plane down, angled for the ringside seats. They'll give you all a million in gold soundz if you'll only let Spiral have his roll. Yeah, I know Bob Nastanovich, and he speaks like an ordinary guy. "Range Life" is the Best Song of the 1990s... and that's about all I cannot say about Pavement the Rock Band.
