i think my ears are still ringing
last nights show was positively a hard rockin good time. didn't care for bluebird and the division of laura lee was somewhat less than inspiring. the locusts were kind of refreshing and amusing in their own unique hardcore-punk-where-the-rubber-meets-the-road kind of way but i'm sure i reached the limit of how many 80 second slash, bang, and scream sessions i could take. the evenings headliners, the international noise conspiracy, was awesome. i thought there was a distinct rolling stones influence and pol pot informed me that they're inspired by iggy pop and the stooges. the fact that they're a bunch of swedes does kind of crack me up, especially the first time i heard the lead singer talk with that funny accent. unlike the other bands on stage last night, the lead singer is just about everything you'd want a lead singer to be. taking a page out of the roger daltry book of microphone helicopter whirls (although he needs a few more years of practice to be considered in the same league), i'm not ashamed to admit that i found him to be a fairly sexy man-man, baby. and because of that, i'll forgive him from doing "the carlton" on stage. repeatedly. you know "the carlton" from the fresh prince tv show... shimmy-kick, shimmy-kick, shimmy-kick. i would've liked to have heard the bass and guitar players get a little solo time but i guess that doesn't quite fit in their formula. it was also kind of funny that all band members wore the same shirt that they were shilling at the venue. capitalism may have stolen your virginity, but it also holds your fashion sense captive. again, something very forgiveable because it was more than obvious that they loved to play and really loved to play loud and hard. you gotta love the revolutionary spirit with which they play also, although i'm not too sure how most of the people would feel if they really understood the socialist slant behind the songs. you gotta love them swedes, their work ethic really shows and i'm willing to bet that they spend many a dark winter holed up having continuous jam sessions.
