why is daily variety running a review of a concert that happened on monday in their friday issue? besides being more than a few days tardy, i'm pretty convinced that my review was a little better than those done by the professionals although i do admire steven mirkin's ability to pick up the melodies of several blues classics when jack white was slashing away at his guitar.

the hollywood reporter's tony gieske reviewed the scorsese-produced pbs series on the blues in today's issue. highlights include clint eastwood's "piano blues" segment with ray charles and oscar peterson (!!!), plenty of clapton, the making of a tribute to bb king, and legendary mc chuck d from public enemy taking viewers on a blues trip through chicago. i would strongly advise that i not be bothered between the hours of 9 and 11 pm in the coming week.

the la times ran a profile of all the minor california gubernatorial candidates here. a gold star goes to the lucky boy or girl who can identify the candidate with a fondness for martinis. and a cookie goes to the person who can tell me who is a member of the butt monkey beer political party.

i think you should be excited.. but i don't know if the vibe carries across the country. i know b&s did a party in SF that wasn't really off the chain. for me, it wasn't so much about the tracks (even tho there are some classics that make me go bananas) but more about the amazing energy the party had. no pretense, just dancing and hollering and singing out loud.

do be sure to tell me all about it. get the kids around you screaming and flailing and you're guaranteed to have a good time!
