I just got a new camera which I expect to be taking pictures of all kinds of things with. I got it to use at Disneyland but last night the batteries werent charged enough. I was able to take this picture though. This is what the copilot seat of my truck looks like.

There's a few things you can see about it that speak much about my entire life. Probably most noticable is that there is a computer built into the console.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
I put that there some time ago. I built a really nice console out of EPS but never got around to laying the composites over it and it would squeek as I drove so I took it out and put the much more practical HDPE plate that the keyboard is on now. The keyboard is attached to the plate with double sided foam tape. It's backlit and, especially when it was all integrated into the foam console, looked insanely impressive at night. Under the plate an old UPS unit is attached that I had laying around here. I took the dead batteries out and hooked it up to the 12v main battery on the truck. I thought it was a pretty cool solution for getting 110vac in there. If the battery died I just plug it into something with an extension cord and bam, I already have a charger that'd charge the battery back up. If sitting at home doing any configuration or whatever I can plug the UPS unit into the house power and it'll instantly switch over since that's what it's designed to do. Plus ... it was free.

The touchscreen above it died in July during a severe heat wave. Since that happened it's no longer a navigation, communication, and media center but has since turned into the equivelent of a very labor intensive 4gb iPod shuffle without the volume control. I've been meaning to buy another touchscreen but just keep putting it off and focusing on other endeavours. That's kindo the story with this whole truck. At first I was going to tear the entire dash out so that the floorboard went up to the windshield and it was just open space with the guages built into the firewall. I was going to use thermal electric coolers for the heater/air conditioner. The computer was to stay on all the time and have 99.9% availability online. A 2kw inverter was gonna be installed in there to run any 110 devices that I'd need while we were out in the desert shooting guns n riding bikes. I was even considering having a water jacket system installed in the seats to ensure that they're always the right temperature, also cooled or heated by thermal electric coolers. One of the reasons so little of that was done is because all of it would have required substantial power. I'd have needed 2 er 3 deep cell batteries to keep things going for any length of time with the motor off such as waiting for a friend to run into Albertsons and buy water or of course actually using anything as it's designed once we get out to the desert. Once the engine is started back up not only would the charging system have to supply the 2kw of power needed to run all the stuff but would have to charge those batteries back up. We'd be lookin at a pretty serious power generation solution. Definitely that stock lil 60 amp alternator would not be up to the task. Hell I burned it out just using what lil setup I have right now. Chances are I'd have had to go with a secondary charging system such as an automaticaly controled generator underneath the truck. I looked into getting something like that but no one makes anything that'd work unless you get a marine solution which would take up the entire bed of the truck and cost like $5k. Entirely out of the question. I'd have had to have built it and that would have taken a long ass time. So I just stuck with the laptop n touch screen and left it at that.

The post-it is of things I needed to get or do. I'm blonde so I need reminders to do everything.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
It says 1gb to remind me to get the memory card to use in my camera from my neice that I got her for christmas but she's never used. LSMFT is written on the bottom of Lucky Strike nonfilter packs andd means Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco. I was out of smokes and I buy them so rarely that I need to remind myself when I'm out. I wrote "scrubs" on there to remind me that under no circumstances am I to get into that truck again without taking a shower first. Sometimes I get so caught up in my work that all I ever do is wake up and run in to get things done, work, come home, spend a few minutes in chat, and go to sleep.

On the far right is a bag with fins, mask, snorkle, towel, and shorts. You never know when you're gonna have to go snorkling.

Just to the left of that is my backpack.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
This never leaves my sight for more than a few hours. It contains everything I need to live for 3 days. I'm replacing everything that it used to have because the day before the 4th of July my old one got stolen. Obviously that's not the same backpack, I just got that one at Frys for $12.

I always keep a fire extinguisher in my cars. They're only $10. No sense to not having one.

I love Squirt. (the stuffed baby sea turtle from Finding Nemo)

That thing near the heater vents is an optical non-contact thermometer that I picked up at Harbor Freight for $9.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
I needed a clock in my truck and the temp guage isn't working so I thoguht I'd get that and use it in the event that I'm concerned that the truck is overheating.

If you're a sharp cookie you've noticed that the thermometer is reading 85.6deg outside (that's actually the temperature of the windsheild, that's what it's pointed at) and I still have the heater on.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
Noteworthy is that the truck was in the shade and it was evening time so the temp had dropped considerably to boot. I always drive with the heater on. My heart has always beat extremely slowly when I'm not excersizing. As in below 50bpm even when I'm casually walking around. When I'm completely relaxed I've checked it as low as 28bpm. As result it makes no heat so I'm always cold, and when I'm drinking cold soda er whatever I start to shiver like mad. I usually eat while I'm driving and thus drinking cold beverages as well. (even though I always always order soda with no ice it's still cold).

Below the heater controls and to the left of the touchscreen, yes that's a genuine altimeter out of an aircraft accurate to + or - 2 feet. I still have all the gages out of my dads Taylorcraft and couldn't see much sense in it sitting idle in storage when I could have it in my truck. biggrin

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
Hey if you can get out to Disneyland tonight call me at (951) 555-1024. That's my brothers cell phone number (Edit: not anymore!), not mine. I'm not sure when I'll get my phone back to working again. I'm goin through the ringer with T-Mobile now. I might just go god damn get another account at Nextel er something so I can have the whole GPS tracking thing on my website so everyone will know exactly which rides I'm on at any time if they have a sidekick er something that can view webpages. biggrin

wow, such opposites, my heartbeat at REST is around 120bpm, and my normal body temp is around 96.1 so everything usually feels quite warm to me. Not hot, just warm. I mean, i enjoy piles of snuggly bedding, but with the fan on or when lucky the AC set to 65 degrees. I enjoy my creature comforts.

Your backpack reminds me that i need to pack my own into my car, cause i have my tent, but nothing to change into if the weather gets inclement, which you know, could happen at any time in sunny southern california wink

you know, i quit my job too soon without considering the ultimate long term.. kinda like something else i quit for another chance... blackeyed
