SG is changing. Although it's always been changing somewhat it's actually been quite consistent in what SG has always been. But it seems it's only a matter of time before someone leaves a journal response of "thx 4 tha add!!!". As soon as someone does I think I'm outa here. Some good changes are being shown though. Such as the hookup section finally being made into a real hookup section. Although one might say that it's bound to become an SG craigslist, I think SG needs something like that. With so much community it's a shame it's been so long in its coming as it is.
I'm worried about what's gonna happen with SG when the beta is released. It's a massive rewrite of the front end of SG and is going to put pretty much every other website to shame. It's bound to become the bar at wich website front ends are measured against. There's a big (as far as website front end engineering teams are concerned) tallented team of engineers working day and night on it.
But its effect could go one of many ways. It's poised to attract a more intelligent crowd, which I think we really need. However that may drive off a lot of the userbase numbers. In it's current version it's fairly busy and even somewhat difficult to use, but then again it's a beta and all beta software is meant for enthusiasts, people who are highly capable. Usually software is made where it has its core function and people who know how to use it try it and give the designers bug reports so they can fix it and then just before it's final release it's simplified so that Joe Blow average user can use it to it's designed potential. But, from what I've gathered about the SG brass they have a different approach. They go straight for the gold. They think about what they want and then make it. And when it's seen as being stable they stick it out there and everyone makes the most of it. It may be it's downfall.
I haven't ever been involved deeply in SG affairs though. These are just my findings as an outsider. Just drunken ramblings of an average user really. Honest thoughts, but still drunken ramblings is all.
