The second in a daily series of simple-things-that-make-me-unreasonably happy:

Track one on The Shins Chutes Too Narrow, Kissing the Lipless. It sits in my clock radio/CD player and provides the perfect wake-up routine for an otherwise anti-morning kind of guy. First the handclapping (who wouldnt want to wake up to applause), the gentle falsetto of James Mercer cue quitars viva electricity and bam. Singing...

I've been re-digging the Shins lately these days, mostly due to the Garden State soundtrack.

I think the key difference is that Eddie colored himself on BEASTS, and most certainly not in Captain America. I couldn't even tell you what was going on in the second issue of that story.

(laughter) Yes, but I suspect if you were one of the "think tanks with purchase power" from the North lands, you would plan things a little better. Government contracts....definitely gotta love it. wink

I used to get unreasonably happy when my crystal spider would throw rainbows across my kitchen, and they would dance on the walls. So lovely. I really do enjoy the simplest things. Makes me wonder why I am here...oh yes. Flight from prosecution. wink

Feeling supersonic
Give me gin and tonic
You can have it all
But how much do you want it?

Know what makes me unreasonably happy? Finding lots of parking meter quarters in my ashtray. I never expect them to be there. And when I find them smiles. Little things, my friends. When things are working for you, everything makes you smile.

I've been painting rooms...

heya....you're back! HI!! how were the waffles? yeah....me, i'm a motor mouth or motor writer in this case. i think i was all euphoric 'bout bein' home. i love this damn city we live in. absolutely love it. i don't think i could e v e r move away.

gosh. you know, i feel the same way 'bout everything u said. sometimes, when i'm r e a l l y r e a l l y happy, i'm just can't enjoy it - it's like a real struggle. i guess just cuz i know how bad things can get. i donno. but definitely the little things are sweet. like playing elvis! biggrin

lookin' forward to the pix....
kismi:
You are right....no matter what, you always have the little things.
I love those little things:

A cup of hot chocolate with whipped cream piled high.

Feeding ducks and the feeling you get when they are all surrounding you and quacking...they love you.

Looking at the sky, closing your eyes, and feeling the sun shining on your cheeks.

Good art.

Standing on the shore watching your feet get burried in the sand as each wave swirls around your ankels and washes back out.

People with bad hair...I love their sense of freedom.

Snuggling.

Having someone wave at you when you let them in on the freeway.

Gosh, there are so many things. I am so fucking happy that your life is wonderful right now. That is such a great feeling.
Maybe we could get together to enjoy some little things together. I always wanted to go to the Palace of Fine Arts.

biggrin

The Hives are indeed the best live band on the planet. Thank you, SPIN, for not always being wrong. Like that time with Bandwagonesque... heh...

I think I'm in love. More on that later.

I'm going back to Ashland for a week. Hope to run into my waffle-mates. Sorry, no internet. Not like you'll miss me (snif...)

Marc Bode is the son of underground comix...

So this happened

Last Thursday night I went to see The Wrens at the Music Hall. Decent enough show. Long day, maybe I just wasnt into it.

Anyway, back to my car at a quarter to 1 and we start to drive off when I hear all this rattling in the back seat. I look over my shoulder and realize that the rear passenger window...

You have not been neglectful at all. At least not in my book. smile

I am feeling tons better today actually. Though while moving furniture I fell, I'm still feeling pretty keen actually. Go figure. Hope all is well for you love.

Give a man a waffle, he eats for a day. Teach a man to sketch abstract caricatures and compose obscure poetry, and he eats for life. Or, at least, until the end of the tourist season.

I just got back from Southern Oregon. Ashland, to be exact. Gorgeous town in the Rogue Valley sheltered by the Cascade Mountains and just about fifteen miles from the...

I feel better.

I'm comfortable with the fact that I'm powerless to do anything about the homeless situation in this city, and if I do nothing more than continue to be aware of what is happening, make every effort to understand the how and why... then at some point I won't have to hate myself for feeling useless. And Michael, if I ever find him...

I saw Michael Thursday afternoon. I was going to buy tickets at the Music Hall, and I went looking for him around where he said I could always find him. I saw him, but he didnt see me.

Truth is, I barely recognized him. And when I say he didnt see me, I mean he couldnt see. Couldnt stand. Couldnt do anything more than shake...

a moving tale that just leads me to shrugging my shoulders. if I knew just what to do I'd do it by golly.

so both the evil laptop and you got this anti-asian-irish-hybrid streak in ya? i forget...is it two or three that make a conspiracy?
stitchy:
hey there....everyone has their good days and bad days....his are just more extreme than ours. give him some time and try him back another day....

i took a couple, well a lot, of pictures of the heart by my office. as soon as i get a chance....i'll upload to my journal, if i can figure that out. maybe that will cheer you up? =)

p.s. i hope you're not mad about the zoo comment. i still am not a fan of zoos but since the animals have no choice in the matter, i agree that they should be well taken care of.

Thanks first and foremost to rexphantom who introduced me to this issue in his May 21 journal entry.

There are two things I remember most about going to the zoo when I was a kid: the first was the giant iconic dog in a chefs hat that smiled down from above Doggie Diner across the street (I never saw a Ralphs Big Boy growing up,...

Thought of you today when I was walking on Market St. I remembered your story about the hearts in the city. Have you seen the one between 1st & New Montg? It's across the street from the See's candy store. If you haven't, you have to. It is SO amazing!

Fuck this decision-making shit. I had a great goddam weekend and I'll make up my mind on what I'm doing next year and what I'm doing with the rest of my life some other time. When I'm good and ready.

For now...

This Franz Ferdinand show was one of the best shows I've seen this year. And I know I say that a lot... I...
