Advice on how to get people to stop harassing you about getting married...

"Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals."

ha, yea the women i spend time with are all of the 'we dislike other women and only hang out with men' variety as well.
i think there should be some sort of exchange program for younger women who arent like this, where we send them off to spend time with a group of older women, or women who dont like women, and they learn a little something.
i also think wine should be mandatory for such learning experiences cause that just made it soo much better. wink

Thanks for the compliment. And we are not old one bit. I'll post more pics of my tats soon, it's looking really good. kiss

Okay seriously,

see, i feel sort of like that about my past relationships - moving on can be a struggle, especially after the longterm ones (i was with someone for nearly 4 years) but you end up feeling like surviving that struggle is some kind of catharsis.

i view them - relationships - as little self-contained parts of my life that were necessary, and helped me evolve into who and where i am now. . . so everything becomes essential, even the ones that really hurt when they ended, because i'm happy now, and without those. . . my life might have gone down some other track.

no regrets.

i put blue velvet on, principally because my girlfriend hadn't seen it - which i couldn't believe. they're so sheltered in sweden to some extents, especially artistically. dennis hopper is the best thing about that film, though, in all his unhingedness - definitely my favourite villain from any film, ever, and certainly one of the most memorable.

anyways, i would love to keep in touch with you if you fade to grey, a fate which i think i may be embracing rather soon too for one reason or another. i don't feel compelled to renew my membership anymore. . .

drop me a note, though, whatever you choose to do.

hope your week is going well smile

i shall do - it's not that i haven't been painting my ass - or rather, hands - off of late, it's more a problem of owning a caera that at best, takes blurry under-exposed photographs that don't do my work any favours. i'm going to invest in a decent camera with my first paycheck back in sweden, along with feeding all the inevitable food addictions i've picked up there.

it's all portraiture these days too - which is where i'm most comfortable in my work smile

mmm, and i loved your al pacino anecdote - i agree with you. i think with a lot of actors of that calibre, as they get older, there just aren't any meatier roles that can do their craft justice. i'd say the same about de niro.

i don't think it's a failing of the actors, more that they just aren't making anything really spellbindingly good anymore - like, half the movies on at the theater right now here are either adapted from books, or are sequels, and i think, a couple of remakes - are there no original ideas left, you know?

and we shall have wine, one of these days. i'll probably be visiting friends i have over there towards the end of the year, maybe the beginning of next, so. . . who knows smile

well, i'm not going to advocate any dragging or shooting. i've felt like this, i actuallyu felt like this for years, and thus i'm not going to belittle your feelings with a "cheer up, things will get better" speech because i know how bloody shitty that is, on top of how you're already feeling.

all i'll say instead is that sometimes, life does surprise you, even if it does so in the most modest ways - infuriating as that may be.

i'm sorry you're feeling low, honey. i hope you're feeling a little better now, than how you felt when you wrote this.

take care of yourself

It's raining cats and dogs in Philly.

Where the hell did that expression come from anyway?

Raining cats and dogs

Meaning:
A very hard rain.

Example:
We decided to cancel our trip, it was raining cats and dogs that day.

Origin:
When the bubonic plague was rampant in London, humans where apparently not the only victims of the plague. Cats and dogs were also afflicted, many died in the streets. After a particularly hard rain, street gutters could be awash in the bodies of cats and dogs.

Another theory suggests that thunder and lightning represent a cat and dog fight.

Yet another traces the origin of the phrase to ideas in ancient mythology that cats could influence the weather, and that dogs were a symbol of the wind.

Thanks to Ron Akers

This phrase goes back many hundreds of years to the Dark Ages. The cat was thought by sailors to have a lot to do with storms. Witches that were believed to ride in the storms were often pictured as black cats.

Dogs and wolves were symbols of winds and the Norse storm god Odin was frequently shown surrounded by dogs and wolves. In the phrase "raining cats and dogs", cats symbolize the rain and dogs represent the wind of the storm.
