Ever heard of the SDR? I hadn't. It's a currency. It doesn't belong to any nation. And I'd never heard of it. You? I'd have never heard of it still, but my eye stopped on a line of the fine print of an airplane ticket where Continental said they'd pay me back not in dollars but in SDR if they lost my luggage.
While I'm talking about seemingly important things to do with Wealth and Power that I was surprised to not know, did you know that HSBC Holdings is the biggest company in the world? I had no idea. Just a few initials I'd see in passing here and there. I'd thought the biggest was NTT, the Japanese phone monopoly. My officemate was surprised it wasn't ConAgra, the US's biggest maker of crappy packaged and processed foods. Nope, they hit the list at #66 and #660 respectively.
So who's huge? Banks, Oil, and Insurance. Oh, and General Electric. Yes, Mr. Edison, more than 75 years after your death, your company is still the second largest in the world. Toyota, AT&T and WalMart also make the top twenty.
