20 things about me.

1. I've paraded with the original U.S. Mardi Gras court.
2. I have one sibling, an older sister, who finished creating her first feature length film in the last year.
3. My father was the author of "Every Which Way But Loose" and numerous other country and western hits you haven't heard of. I tired of country music around the age of 5, when for the x-thousandth time dad asked me to "listen to this and tell me what you think."
4. I take up a new hobby every few weeks. The most recent is sport climbing, which I've been at for a couple months now.
5. I have 4 pets - two guinea pigs, two goldfish. I name boy guinea pigs after quantum physicists. I name my computers after my goldfish. I name female guinea pigs in japanese. I name inanimate objects all too frequently.
6. My life is an ongoing tug of war between the desire to have as few worldly possessions as I can get away with and the need to keep the various props for my oodles of hobbies on hand.
7. I'm in the middle of doing a master's thesis, and have been for a few weeks now. I'm trying to get it done by the end of the year. Yes, I'm crazy.
8. I've had a date with Death. Multiple times now. She's stood me up a few times, too.
9. I play celtic folk harp.
A. For a school project I once coded several thousand lines of assembly in couple of weeks. When people interrupted me by instant messenger I took to responding in hexadecimal ascii until they went away.
B. I sleep with two stuffed animals - a giant yeast cell, and a teddy borg. The yeast cell has something to do with the meadbrewing hobby.
C. I wear sandals or boots every day. I haven't owned a 'normal' or 'work' pair of shoes in years. I mismatch my socks. On purpose.
D. I passed a month in Bangkok once, during which I studied massage at the Temple Pracheutopon. Making it to class each day involved convincing the taxi driver that I really did want to go to a temple, not the red light district.
E. I slept through a catagory 3 hurricane.
F. Time in Alaska taught me how to burn snow. (This is actually a stupid cooking trick, not a way of making heat.)
10. I am allergic to coffee, tea, chocolate, and anything else with caffeine in it.
11. My favorite fruits are pear and cherimoya.
12. I've been the priest for one wedding and one funeral.
13. I have a southern accent that comes out every 50th or 100th word, if you know to listen for it.
14. I have the best friends in the world, though I rarely get to see them and most are scattered to the four corners of the earth.

Yes, that's part-cause of the inconsistency for me too. For some people, cooking is their only chance to be scientific; for me, it's a chance to be artistic. I don't respect recipes, approved flavor combinations, or exact quantities (except sometimes in baking, where there's no point in putting so much effort into it if your bread is going to fail to rise and come out with the density of a neutron star).
