Albert the guinea boar has survived his surgery. He's stoned on painkillers now, but munching hay regardless.

Update: 12 hours after his surgery and Albert is still with us. If he makes it to the morning, maybe I can ease off worrying about the little bundle of fur so much.

Just bottled my first batch of mead. Initial tasting after ~10 months of fermentation have it being a little beery and somewhat strong. I'm told that mead is a notoriously slow brewing beverage, and I should expect it to need at least a year of age before it's worth drinking. In the meantime.. it wasn't bad. I used to have some really good friends who made mead. If I remember correctly they fermented it for 6 months and bottled it for 6. They tried all kinds of flavors too, I think strawberry or blueberry were my two faves apart from just the reagular stuff. The thing about mead is that you never know what you are going to get when it's done. EVERY batch is different, even if you do the exact same thing every time. It's the honey.

If you EVER need an experienced taste tester, my services are there for you. ARRR!!!

Caring sucks.

I was just changing my guinea pigs' cage bedding, and noticed that one of them had a HUGE lump in his nether regions, like a hernia or a tumor. Now he's all bouncy and happy seeming because he has fresh bedding, and I'm worried sick about him.

Called the vet. Left a message. Hopefully they can see him soon. Good guinea pig vets...

My main project of note is to get a purely VoIP wifi handset working on a service like Vonage. I've found two places on the internet where people have done exactly this, but I'm still into trying it. The main allure, of course, is to be able to walk around my apartment with a VoIP phone just like I would my old Panasonic cordless, but without the kludgy converter box. After that, maybe an OS X service that will let me dial any number I've got highlighted automatically.

At one point in time, I could recite up to 20 digits of Pi. I was pretty happy about that.
And then, last night I had this dream that I was taking Organic Chemistry and Chemistry and Biology as an undergrad and I was kicking everyone's asses.
Apparantly, in this dream, I was studying to be a Veterinarian. How cool would that be?
