Essen Spieltage - 2009
It was my first time here, at the world's biggest boardgaming showcase. This is where the new games get released each year, and various awards handed out. Buyers from all over Europe show up, just to catch discounts on the classics and the latest releases. If you're not up on the Boardgaming Renaissance, a side trip to BoardGameGeek.com's rankings is a...

Ya, I'm a total nerd, and damn proud of it
My new apartment is in an old neighborhood, where the rooms still hold coal furnaces. Coming home on a cold night, the smell takes me back to summer camp days spent blacksmithing.
I like it here.

Sounds like you've been watching too many Mucinex ads.

Me being so me is a good thing, right? I think so.
Right now, I really want to blog about the project I'm coding; to air out my thoughts, see how they sound when I read them back, and to know that someone else is reading and maybe even rooting for me. Problem is, there's not much more boring that reading about code in progress to a non-coder.
For what it's worth, things are coming along well....

artchick and Allen actually came by the office a couple weeks ago. I was wearing one of my rosary/key necklaces, and she did indeed like it very much.

As a non-coder married to the most hardcore of coders, I can attest that it's not all that boring. Well, it's boring when he talks about his day job. The side project is massively interesting, though.
I am happy to report that I have an apartment in a quiet bit of Berlin for two months.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. That old saw is pretty boring to me these days. I think one of the reasons so many natives move away is they can't stand hearing people talk about how LA has no seasons anymore.
atomicant:
dallas, texas. so i guess texas, texas. but hey, at least it's not san antonio!

So how did you end up spending your last 10 days?
At some point (and when I can remember most of it) I'll have to tell you the story of this Swedish couple I met that tried to get to Greece overland; Macedonia was especially fun. Passports were taken and not returned. A night was spent at the police station. Not all of them made it out. Relatively speaking I think I got off easy with my own 67 hour journey to Greece.

Phew.
Sleepy. Roadworn. Happy.
After 24 hours on trains, I'm out of Eastern Europe and back in Berlin.
It was great over there, but I'm glad to be back someplace where I know how things work and how to get things done. I've got a handful of loose ends to tie up in the next fortnight before flying back across the pond for Burning Man....

Perhaps. Then again animals acting pouty has never broken me down. That's why my dogs don't beg

It was going to be a flashback in a different story. Since I cut it, though, it may work as an opener in something else.
