When you get your new computer, have a computer geek friend install the hard drive from you old dead one as a "primary slave drive", and most likely your archives will magically be intact. If not have a new primary slave drive installed so you can store all of you precious things there. The secondary hard drive can then be moved to the new computer each time you get one. You probably have not lost your data files and they can be read from the new computer. No guarantees, but most likely.
