Friday night. Decided to stay in. Bored shitless. So without further adieu, here are some things currently occupying my thoughts:

1.) Boredom. Is anyone else out there bored to ass-numbing porportions? OK, I'm in the midst of looking for a job so I've got WAY too much time on my hands, but it just seems like I'm more bored now than I can remember being....

1. Hmm. I'm currently job-hunting as well. Well, not really agressively hunting, more half-heartedly sending out applications and c.v.'s while hitting up some leads on freelance work. But, no, it's very difficult for me to be bored; usually it requires having to spend time in the company of someone whose company I don't want. And I've long since given up watching channels that have little scrolly things on the bottom.

2. His voice is rather thin. It seemed to work for him, though, in the Magnum role and in Her Alibi. I haven't really seen him in anything else. Westerns are one of the few genres I completely avoid, so. But, I don't know. Something I'll have to take notice of the next time I see him in something.

3. What happened to Dennis Miller was 9/11. Seriously. Before then, he was this quirky erudite intellectual commedian who had a meaningless talkshow that allowed him to do a mini-act once a week for about fifteen weeks (I loved the show, but aside from the rants it was just your average "fluff piece" show). But then 9/11 happened and this really odd political side to Miller surfaced. He'd always mixed in political humor, but he'd always been very good about hitting both sides about equally. Suddenly his political humor was becoming very one-sided and more politcal than humor. There was this general smarminess to this switch. The HBO show gets cancelled and he's given a politcal show on one of the new networks and the fall is complete. I've caught a clip or two while flipping through the channels, and it just makes me shake my head. I liked Dennis when he was taking erudite cheapshots, not when he was pushing an agenda.

4. The thing about corn on the cob is that I get chin abrasions from my stubble when I eat it. It's worth it, mind you, but I tend to limit how often I eat it. And you don't put pepper on it? Zhuh?

6. Well, at least we'll be in hell together.

7. Hockey is impossible to market in America because i) the best teams are small market teams and Americans seem to only care about, or at least tune in to watch, teams from big markets; ii) rarely are the star players American, which means that the sport is viewed by the general public as a foreign sport; iii) much like in football, the protective equipment worn prevents the casual viewer from quickly identifying a given player; iv) the game itself is low scoring and repetitive (reasons why soccer continues to break through) and thus to the casual viewer seems boring; v) inexplicably the production values of hockey haven't changed much since the 70s. Now, iii) and iv) are superficial problems based on conditioning. As said, football has players just as anonymous, and baseball is an even slower, more repetitive game. i) and ii), though are the real sticking points, it seems. I remember I was watching basketball when the Flyers were playing games 6&7 against TB, and they kept breaking into the game to update on what was happening. Phillie is a large market. Since they were eliminated, I haven't heard anything about hockey from the basketball people. I'm not a fan of hockey, but I do hate to see a sport die.

8. I don't know. I always wonder why there aren't more latinos on shows, as they'll soon become the largest minority in America. But then I don't think I've actually ever sat through an entire reality dating show.

Is it wrong that it took me several long moments to figure out what word you were appologizing for?

There comes a time in every man's life when he must heed a higher calling. When he must step up, put his ass on the line and be prepared to take the brunt of the assault. Kennedy knew this. Michael Jordan knew this. The Marlboro Man knew this. Paul Ruebens knew this. For every man, this time comes as destiny, as the beacon of hope...

Heh, yea, I watched the newer version. I love Jeremy Irons, he should'a won an oscar for that role. Oh well. And Dominique Swain? Heh, yea, I had a crush on her ever since Face/Off! smile

Here are some new things that are making my blood boil:

- What the fuck is going on with gas prices? Ever notice that whenever there's a big hike in prices it comes just before the summer, when everyone and mother is looking to road trip? I don't think the country should dip into the reserves to off-set the prices, but isn't Dubya the guy...

I am worn out. I spent a long, exhausting, yet exhilarating day at TES Fest on Saturday, and I'm not sure words can explain what it was like. But I'll try because I really don't have pics to share because it's kind of frowned upon at events like that.

First off, let me say that I got to meet up with some totally cool, wonderful...

Some quick observations: 1.) For all that is good and right in the world... THE NEW SLIPKNOT SINGLE FUCKING KICKS MAJOR ASS!!!! Holy shit that song is good! When I heard it the first time I nearly soiled myself! I don't even know the name of the song, I think it's called Duality or something, but god damn it rocks. I always thought of them...

1. I've yet to hear it (not surprising, considering I never listen to the radio), but I adored their first album ("Wait and Bleed" is an amazingly catchy tune). Their second album, Iowa, left me more than a little cold. I suppose I'll give this new one a chance when it comes out.

4. I'll just assume it's a domestic abuse insult. Kinda witty, actually.

5. Feh. Taste is arbitrary. Still, wanting that for a wedding song does seem fairly absurd. Hell, having a wedding seems absurd to me.

6. I think he probably knows which cocks to suck.

7. I don't know. Seventeen perfect games in 120 years does seem rare enough to make a fairly big deal out of it. But you're also right. The way the sports media is pimping it, it's almost like he pitched it with a blown elbow against the Murder's Row Yankees after promising a set of cojoined twins (who just happen to now be on the mend after he donated one of his kidneys to them that morning) that he'd pitch the game, and after the game he built a time machine, went back in time and killed Hitler. As for the issue of comparing from different eras, I think you can kinda-sorta-but-not-really do it if you look at it holistically, trying to factor in many different factors. And even then you're left with a simple opinion not entirely unlike comparing two players in the same era; everyone sees things differently.

9. The Dirty Dancing due is leaving? I wouldn't really get in a twist over the lack of awards; they're pretty meaningless.

10. I never got on the Vin Diesel bandwagon. The only reason Pitch Black held any appeal for me was because Claudia Black was in it. I thought he was decent in it, but nothing spectacular. My opinion of his other films are pretty close to yours. Though I did rather like him in Knockaround Guys where he gives his little speech about fighting. I'll probably catch Chronicles on video, and I expect it to do poorly. I suspect Diesel's roles will be fewer from here on out.

12. Agreed. Though there was a perverse part of me that really wanted Denver to beat Minnie just to keep the streak alive. Knicks managment should be shot for many things.

Heh. I'll be seeing Troy on the weekend. That they removed most of the gay material in the film will probably prevent me from seeing it again. Ah, well.

thanks for your kind words, sir ~ lovely to make your aquaintance. as for the above, you are my new hero ~ grrreat entry!! rumsfeld needs to spend a few days in "camp redemption" puke and then spend the rest of his life doing manual labour to atone for his ignorant/malicious regime. fucker. as for the beasties ~ hell yeah. plus, i have always admired their public philosphical turnaround. rock on. and common slapper (if i am inferring the proper meaning) is now in my vocab. biggrin biggrin

Ah, spring in CT... bees buzzing, little kids running around, NHL playoffs, lacrosse, crushes on every woman who walks by... AND HUMIDITY OUT THE YINGYANG! What the fuck!!! Here's my thing: fall. I love the fall. I'm the most comfortable in 42-52 degree weather. I hate the heat. Sure, it's fun to cruise around in the spring and summer, play golf or lax, hit the...

Quiet please... quiet down. Could I have everyone's attention... (drum roll)

I passed my bartender's exam! Yay!!!!! Got a 91 on the written (needed a minimum of 85) and a 97.5 on the practical (needed a minimum of 90; the practical test is making 12 random drinks in under 7 minutes... I squeaked by in 6:58!) And here's the kicker... I never studied. smile Now, all...

Aced my bartender midterm (got a 100). But, I still can't remember my name, much less what goes into a Tom, John or Joe Collins (who drinks that shit anyway?). I was talking to one of the instructors and he said that people closer to school (i.e. young whippersnappers who are fresh out of college) typically do better than older students because they're more used...

heh. My sister's a bartender. My advice as a some-time older student is flashcards. Quiz yourself.
For me, I didn't actually study when I was a younger student, so I had to figure it out as an older student wink

Two days of bartending classes and I've come to a realization: I drink drinks A LOT better than I make them. tongue And, I swear I'm feeling like I have early Alzheimer's or something because I can't remember a damn thing. I'm using the wrong glasses, I'm forgetting the right garnishes, I'm shaking drinks when I shouldn't... and this is all in simple bar setup in...

You're more than likely having trouble remembering things because you lack a context to remember them in regards to bartending. Think back to the last time you tried to learn something that was not an extension of a skill you previously had (i.e. not building on a context). Once you learn a context, a basic framework from which to build, you'll start remembering the details better.

The dropping of the boyfriend bomb can be several things. More often than not it's a signal that you've moved slightly too fast in your seduction. As long as she is comfortable and is having fun, there will be no mention of a boyfriend. The boyfriend does not exist to the girl who is having fun and is enjoying your company right now. When you move a bit too fast, or press a bit, she suddenly is not having fun and is no longer comfortable; the boyfriend is brought up to make you stop. Now, you can always ignore that fact that she has a boyfriend and go back to having a good time, move a bit slower, and possibly get something going with her. Or you can consider her taken and move on. Depends on what type of person you are, and what type of person she is.

I freelance fiction, mostly. A lot of write for hire stuff, which, unfortunately, means that I no longer hold the copyright on it. Some essays, manuals, and whatnot. Whatever I can get paid for, really.

as a fellow bartender I will happily show you how to make a G&T - heavy on the G please wink

Sunday. Happy Mother's Day! Here's wishing you, your mom and everyone in your family/life peace and happiness.

OK, was that sappy enough? wink Heading off to the gym; clean my apartment; organize my bills; search for a new job; call my mom in FL. Monday, I start bartending classes (not really looking forward to it, but I need some quick income), and have to swing by...

i forgot to post about my play read through. but it went really well, i got some really good feedback. i think it might get a staged reading this summer because a girl in my class has this theatre group and she really loved it.

it felt great. you know, toiling alone in my apartment sucks sometimes, so when people get what you're trying to do...it feels amazing.

I think bad times can be a test...but are very trying on the nerves. i don't have many friends and loved ones...The only person I really have is my 13 year old brother who I can talk to. I want him to stay a kid- i don't want to bug him. My friends and family are sick of my problems- that's what mood problems do to people. oh well....maybe i should stay offline until i feel happier whatever
