I seem to get more comments when I write more nonsense. Perhaps it is mistaken for insight.
I've actually often wondered about that, you know, why writing I've taken to be stream of consciousness ranting or narrow audience jibberish has been by so many so highly revered as really good writing. Do they really understand it, or are they just afraid to say otherwise?
I guess I just look for different things to make writing good. I look for clarity and smoothness, not convoluted language full of esoteric terms and akward metaphors. Gore Vidal, Stephen Frye, George Orwell, William Gibson, F. Scott Fitzgerald: here are people who know how to write, how to conjure up specific emotions, how to set the scene just right, how to let you *know* the characters, how to narrate, how to show. If I read another dream sequence, I'm going to punch someone. If I read another passage with no point but to sound cool, I will put the book down and never pick it up again.
It's time for a shower and some food.

The more vague and ambiguous -and possibly illiterated, depending on the author- writing is the, the more it tends to insinuate itself into indivual perception without the reader really, fully, realizing it's happening, and they tend to associate personal meanings with what they are reading rather than coming to understand the actual purpose, if any. Which may a purpose unto itself, as with horoscope writing, eh?
