I just watched this thing on the church of scientology and I must say they're quite defensive.

I shopped too hard today. I didn't really get anything, but there was a lot of standing. New pants were needed and you know what a bother those are.

Okay, so how many other peopler here have gruesome fantasies about killing strangers with their bare hands because they walk on the wrong side of the sidewalk or other such nonsense?

Ugh, scientologists.
Robert Heinlein had some interesting things to say about them, because L. Ron Hubbard was a contemporary writer associate of his back in the day.
Heinlein said, in print, that Ron Hubbard dreamed up scientology as a tax dodge, first and foremost. Hubbard was a pretty poor writer, so he made this up for extra income and as a tax shelter.

When I was the stereotypical angry young teenage male, I most definitely wished a thousand deaths upon many, many strangers, especially after learning how to drive. However, soon after becoming a bike messenger and learning that vehicular homicide is rarely intentional, I've become a bit more prosaic about it: I just want to severely damage strangers' very expensive toys. Makes 'em suffer a bit more, plus I like to think it works off the stress while causing more for them.

Time Magazine interviewed Tom Cruise last year and asked a couple questions about Scientology. Probably the first time that Time has ever managed to generate real controversy.
