Bwa.. People are crazy.


I always saw girls and boys that looked pretty young with piercings here in Spain, but always thought they were 16 or 17 year-old teenagers who looked younger, as I do. When I was 16, people thought I was 12. But this time, in the bus, they really looked young, so I decided to ask them, as they were showing interest in my own piercings. I asked how old they were. There were 3 girls, around one little guy. The girls were 11, 12 and 12. The little boy was 12 too, but, as he precised, "I'm more like 13, because my birthday is in 4 months". Well, he wasn't wrong. I told them they had cute piercings, "when did you get them?". One of the girls got it one year ago, the others between 2 and 6 months ago. I asked if they hadn't had any problem to get it done... "No, because we went with our parents". "Why?" It's fashionable! Ho! I love yours in the neck!! I want one!"

It made me sad. Not for the piercings themselves, of course. I got my ears pierced as nearly everyone did, as a baby. Well, I was the one asking for it, but still. I don't think that's a big difference to have some in the face (the boy had one above the eyes, every girl had one somewhere around the mouth, and one of the girl had a surface one, under the eye, which was being rejected, I think). No, it wouldn't be a problem, if piercings, especially in the face, were as accepted as earrings in our society. But the fact is that they aren't, sadly may be. What made me sad was thinking about how little hope the parents of these children have for their descendants' future. They don't know it's not well accepted? They don't know that if their little girls look like miniature prostitutes, that could be dangerous for them? Once more, I'm totally for freedom, and I really wouldn't care if the majority of the society was thinking differently. But it doesn't. The society is not - yet- reday for that. If it was just me, they could be naked and full of tattoos, really, it wouldn't be a problem.

Two of them had piercings I really love on girls, my favourite ones. I never got them, because my future as an interpreter is more important than feeling free with a stick of metal in the face. Same with tattoo. I love my tatts, but I placed them to be able to hide them.

And I thought about hygiene and the chances they have to get ripped by mistake, too. I remember when I was 10, I wanted to wear contact lenses for sport, because I was practicing it at a quite high level. The doctor never accepted, because may be I wouldn't have been caring enough about hygiene (he was right, I know that now, at 21, I even care less). I insisted so much he gave them when I was 11, after showing me several times how to wash them, ... I can't believe a 10 years old cares about his/her piercings. I hope their parents do.

I know it's difficult for some parents to tell "no" to their children, that it's easier if they give them what they want, so the family life is quiet and beautiful. I had a really strict education. At about 13/14 I rejected nearly everything my parents teached me. I chose to go on educating mon my own, choosing what I liked, finding correct rules I'd follow and rejecting their stupid ideas. But I could make that only because I had the basis instilled. So I thank them for that. Not for the rest.

Anyway, I don't want children.
