Do you enjoy visually amazing movies undercut by being cryingly predictable—but squeaks into a good movie because of everything but script? Then may I recommend The Creator (2023) which is just gorgeously beautiful with a great, living, distinct world but the plot is sometimes nonsense. Still worth watching though. Good performances.

Do you like movies that have a neat idea but don’t quite execute the way you think they should? Then may I recommend The Prince of Darkness, which…is fine. Not scary really, not really horrific, and very ’80s. Neat idea tho.

From the how-can-that-be-comfortable department:

Do you enjoy movies that deserve their 98% review on Rotten Tomatoes? Then may I recommend Godzilla Minus One, which knows when to be pin-drop silent and when to rattle your ribs. The secret: it’s a human movie with Godzilla in it. Even if you’d never heard of G, you’d say “that was a great movie.”

Do you enjoy thrilling thrillers starring Peter Cushing in a non-horror role? Then may I recommend Cash On Demand, which starts compellingly then makes with the tension and doesn’t let it go.

Do you enjoy hand-wavy thrillers set in a universe where human blood clotting factor is at actual science-fiction levels of healing? Then may I recommend The Silencing, which, while well shot and beautiful, has a script that fails to explain the title motivation in its own plot.
