Do you enjoy being delighted at every turn? Then may I recommend K-Pop Demon Hunters, the best anime musical I’ve ever seen (also the only one but still), with outstanding animation, characterization, and of course songs. Simple story doesn’t get in the way of the amazing look/feel/heart of it.

Do you enjoy surprising horror? Then may I recommend 28 Years Later, which does just about everything perfectly right for a mix of violent, gross, tense, touching, interesting, world-building run-fast zombie horror. Well written and well directed, with nothing gratuitous—efficient, trim, and tight.

Do you enjoy fun silly romps? Then may I recommend A Minecraft Movie. It’s fun, wahoo, simply plotted, humorous, slapstick, ridiculously unserious, and quite enjoyable. But will you enjoy it if you’re unfamiliar with the Minecraft game? Yes, so long as “live action cartoon” is your mantra.

Do you enjoy formulaic action films with a good lead? Then may I recommend Cleaner, which takes awhile before it gets to the stunts and all, and it feels not low budget but they could’ve spent more on the sets not looking so much like sets. Aside from that, good for a night’s actiony action.

Do you like fine movies? Then may I recommend To Catch a Killer, which isn’t particularly thrilling in the sense you’d expect, and is more a police procedural with no surprises than anything else—but I liked it all the same. Good acting and competent everything else. No innovations, but that’s fine.

Do you enjoy suspending your disbelief—I mean *really* using it? Then may I recommend the action film Plane, a movie as simple as its title that doesn’t ask for much, just that you quiet your brain and enjoy classic actiony action with more action, complete with action hero superficial flesh wounds.

Do you enjoy good buddy action films that ask for a bit more suspension of disbelief but you’re not watching it for realism anyway? Then may I recommend The Account 2, which was fab. Just as good as The Accountant, so if you liked 1, you’ll like 2. Good chemistry, good action.

Do you enjoy big budget action adventure movies that are dumb because of shitty trite writing that gets worse as the film progresses? Then may I recommend Fountain of Youth, which wastes money, actors, effort, and your time in a relentless pursuit of antagonistic squander.

Do you enjoy average action movies about gaslit lady special forces soldiers trying to find their kidnapped child? Then may I recommend Exterritorial, which has a couple good fight scenes. And in a surprising against-type, only one gunshot in the whole movie! Expect to suspend lots of disbelief tho.

Do you enjoy masterworks of film? Then may I recommend Sinners, a period piece that is not only an original vampire movie that doesn’t center the vampires, it revolves around horror using rich characters, amazing writing, outstanding direction—and the _sound_. The sound itself is magic.

Do you enjoy movies that are dumb? Then may I recommend Jewel Thief, a heist movie that treats itself seriously just as it spirals into new frontiers of silly—in a bad way. Not a so-bad-it’s-good vibe, a how-was-this-movie-green-lit vibe.

Do you enjoy middling Irish folk horror filmed in Irish? Then may I recommend Fréwaka which is shot well with good cinematography and acting but the script is a bit thin to support a full length film and it’s not especially creepy or scary or intimidating or tense.
