I tried on Prom dresses today. That did not put me in a good mood.

I looked gorgeous in a couple of them, but they were sleeveless. My arms aren't in the best of shape yet and look terrible without covering, so the nice sales lady suggested a wrap.

The wraps looked lovely with the gowns, but the two gowns that fit and looked stunning were the wrong color. frown

Okay... one was an apple red and actually looked really nice on me, despite red not being my color, but ehhhhh...

So, since I can't get my arms in shape within a week, I'm going to see if I can find a similar dress in a different color and then make a jacket for it.

I'm tempted to say, "Fuck it," and use the dress money to buy fabric and make one myself. I have a design in mind, and I have a week to sew. Perfect.

Anyway, the reason I'm a bit pissy is that you would think that some dress designer out there would realize that big girls often have flabby arms and that it would be REALLY NICE if some larger formal gowns came with, say, organza sleeves or even detachable sleeves the same material as the gown.

I'm not blaming the designers for my size. Lord knows I'm working on it. The problem is that not everybody has shapely arms, especially once you get above a size 20 or so, so until us fat people lose weight, we need something to wear when our cousin says, "You're in my wedding next month," or ... oh... I don't know... you find out you can go to Prom a week beforehand. tongue

I desperately want to make something, and I have a design in mind, BUT I don't want to risk fucking it up and then having no money to buy a dress. Hmm.

Amusing note: They had two gowns I ADORED, and the sales girl was just as frantic about finding something in my size as I was. It was really cute how she was lamenting the lack of choices. smile She kept apologizing, and she was really ticked when we found the perfect gown in the wrong color (as if I can wear pastel yellow).

*sigh*

I really shouldn't be thinking about this. It's just a get-together. I could probably show up in jeans and a t-shirt, and nobody would give a flying fuck because I know so many people are excited about meeting me. I just want my physical presence to be as dazzling as my online presence. wink

New pics in My Pics. Go look.

i hear you babe.

shopping for my actual prom dress three years ago was hell. everything that came in my size had no style. as if someone who is larger than your average bear needs sparkles across their hips. I DON'T FUCKING DO SPARKLES. we ended up having a dress made, which was the best thing ever. not only did my dress fit, but it was unlike anything any one else wore. this is important when you have a grad class of 640 people.

i'm sure whatever you wear, you will look stunning. and hey, didn't dogslife already decide what you were going to wear in the NHS group?
