This is one of the most beautiful, haunting songs ever written. I remember falling in love with it when I was a little girl. It made me think of my trips into the woods, when I'd pretend to enter a magical fantasy world where nobody could find me. I believed that if I crossed the river in just the right spot, I'd find the gateway. I used to take my floating raft out every day and make secret markers along my path so I could find my way to my hideaways. I wonder if my tree forts are still there.
I never wanted to be a princess or anything that silly; I wanted to be the woman who lived in a forest cottage, tending to the sick and needy, helping animals when they were hurt/hungry, and living out her days with her family. I also knew that I was meant to be an apprentice to a witch or wizard because I was born with a stripe in my eye. Everyone with magical powers has some type of marking, right? Mine is my stripe.
Anyway, I re-discovered the song several days ago while my parents were watching Patriot Games. (It's part of the soundtrack.)
It's helping me escape again, even if it's just mentally.
I'm so happy spring is here. I can't wait to visit the woods again.
