Memorial Day.
A great day to go to the park with my housemate's 2.5-year old niece so we can feed the ducks.

EVERYONE ON THE PLANET has the same idea.
So we're feeding the ducks and having a great time, and then I overhear this conversation:
:little girl running and yelling:
"Mommy! Mommy! I found something! Look!"
"What is it, dear? I'm busy." :continues to unload picnic basket:
"It's a sock! But it's weird. It's really small and stretchy."
I looked over, and the kid was holding a used condom and PLAYING WITH IT. Her mom turned toward her just then, and I swear to god... she covered thirty feet with about two running steps and grabbed the thing and threw it in one quick motion. The poor girl was really confused, and I was sort of taken aback by the maternal movement. It was almost nature-special-ish.
We got our first aid kit from the car and washed that little girl's hand with about a bottle of alcohol. Lady Macbeth would have been proud.
It's not like I've never seen used condoms anywhere, but it's one thing to see them and another to see some kid pick one up. I can only imagine the kind of germs and such it had on/in it.
P.S. The mother thanked us for the alcohol and stuff and then said she was off to take the little girl to get some preventive antibiotics from the hospital. Ugh ugh ugh.
