I have to go to court tomorrow. I was supposed to do jury duty back in October, but being as I live here, and all my "official" government-type correspondence gets sent to my parents' house, I didn't get the news of that until sometime in November. Now I have another summons saying that if I don't show up tomorrow at 2pm, they can possibly jail me, fine me, or both. I hate dealing with anything and everything court-related. Maybe I just have a really low tolerance for bullshit, but whenever I have to go there, the people annoy the fuck out of me within the first 30 seconds or so... Then I wish for nothing but bomb threats, masked gunmen, and anthrax scares... Anything to simply let me leave and go away from there.
I'm sure they have some sort of test or questionaire for prospective jurors though. I plan on telling them, "I hate people and I hate cops". I'm sure no lawyer in their right mind would want that person on the jury. I'd say that's three-quarters true. I "intensely dislike" people in general, the masses, whatever you want to call society at large...
I do hate cops though. It's an irrational thing, like how some people hate spiders or are afraid of heights. I realize it's stupid and has no basis in reality (I'm well aware of the fact that law enforcement officers do play very valuable roles, in many, many aspects of daily life), but I still don't like them.
Pssh.
I made a photocopy of the summons and wrote a little note on it, taping it to my manager's desk, so she'll see it first thing in the morning tomorrow. I wrote, "This sucks. I'm not feeling like being jailed or fined, so I'm going to have to show up for this. I only had a day or two's notice. I'll be in to work as soon as possible." I hope they're cool with it. If not, fuck it. I've been thinking about leaving that job for a while now. If they have something to say about it, this is as good a time as ever.
No fucking about aimlessly on the internet tonight for me. I really need to try to get some sleep, I guess. Good night, everyone. Hope everyone is doing all right this evening.
