Note to self: Curried vegetables always seems like a good idea, especially after three pints of Arrogant Bastard Ale.

Further note to self, to be referenced the next time you have this great idea: puke

I stayed up most of the night playing poker, slept for three hours before my dogs woke me up, then tossed and turned for another two hours before I had to drag myself out of bed for an acupuncture appointment.

Good news: the needles did their magic, and my hip, which has killed me for weeks, feels about 83% better.

Bad news: I've got the...

Hey, I didn't know you were a member here... pretty cool.

Turbonapping is a valuable skill to have. My napping schedule between school and work helped me to bond psychologically to the driver's seat of my old car, so that I was actually more comfortable there than anywhere else. Sadly, my new car is just not as comfortable.
radd:
That makes me think of an acupuncture person dressed up like a shifty car mechanic, poking in all the needles to make your hip feel better, but then tossing in one stray needle to give the you a headache so you have to come back in a few weeks later.

Pandora.com is an incredible music site that helps you discover new music. You tell it the title of a song or name of an artist, and it will create a station for you, starting from your selection. Pandora then plays a song from a different artist that it thinks you'll like. You rate that song, to help it figure out what you like and don't...

Its sounds like a great concept and implementation. How long until the music companies try to shut it down? This moves the positioning of music out of their hands. What if people find, enjoy, and purchase music that isn't on their market forecast? More accurately - that they perhaps don't have the largest royalty cut on. Gasp - it could be the end of civilization as we know it!

Wish I had speakers and a working sound card.. ah, well. Soon enough

As an aside, why is the "Add me as a friend" link missing form you? I was all excited, saying "Hey! I failed to find Wil's address to invite him to my wedding, maybe he'll be my friend anyway, and my cool points will increase tenfold!" Meh, it sounded cooler in my head

Back in April, my dog Ferris had surgery to repair a torn ACL in her left knee.

She's at a point in her recovery where we walk her two miles a day, which means that my wife and I are getting great exercise, and my dogs are rarely bored.

We just got back from this morning's walk (ah, the joys of being self-employed and working...

Dogs are the coolest. I've had a couple wolf hybrids over the years. (see chalkas site for pictures) They are so beautiful and so smart, (almost too smart for their own good) but very high maintenance. Since we've had kids, we don't exercise them as much as we used to. I'm just glad we have a pretty big back yard so they're not cooped up.
Sounds like you're crate training. That's the best way to house train your dogs. We did it with our last dog, Kimba, and it worked like a charm.

PS,
Haven't tried the wine yet.

Secret wine shopping tip for Los Angeles types: head out to Cost Plus, and pick up a bottle of Bulletin Shiraz.

If you know anything about wine, it's not a bottle you'd ever pick up on your own . . . . but just trust me on this one.
chalko:
I juat srarted getting into wine over the last two years or so.

I'll check it out and let you know.

Thanks

PS,
Have you seen Marys new set???
WOW!!!
naveed:
Were you the one that posted about Hunter S. Thomson shaving his head in the sixties while running for office? I can't remember who it was I heard that from. Does Bulletin only sell in L.A.? Kuz i'm not in L.A. but i might like to try it.

a long time ago, a friend of mine coined the phrase "writer's clog" as an alternative to "wrtier's block."

it's where you have so many different ideas and things that you want to create, they all clog up in your brains and you can't scrape them off.

autumn has always been my favorite part of the year, and i don't think it's a coincidence that...

For some it is seasons. For me it is rivers. Get me somewhere I can hear a river and I can crank out just about anything.

The ocean works too, but I can't resist spending more time in the water and on the beach than working. biggrin

Mike Doughty fucking rules.

He ruled with Soul Coughing, and he rules on his own. I'm sure he rules on the SG DVD, too. His new album is fantastic, and he was here at the El Rey last night.

. . . but I missed the show, because I had an opportunity to take my stepson Ryan to the Dodger game. As much as I...

Today is set to be the hottest day of the year, according to some local newsdrone (since it's 99 degrees in my back yard, I'm inclined to agree), but it's also absolutely beautiful outside. It hasn't been windy at my house, but the Santa Ana winds are doing their thing, so the skies are impossibly blue . . . unless I look out to the...

it's interesting that it's supposed to be so hot there when it's absolutely turning into cold fall weather just across the country.

I saw that when I was checking the weather. Being as I live in vegas, I was stunned to see it was going to be that much hotter than where we live

It seems like SG readers (and some of the SGs themselves) like stuff that's beautiful, spooky, and a little bit geeky.

I have been playing this game called Spooks[url] that is the middle of the Venn diagram I just described.

It's a simple card game that plays very fast, with gorgeous art work, and alt.rules that can make even the hardest of the hardcore Settlers...

zombies!!! is probably the greatest game i've played in years, short of settlers. get four people in there and you're having a time.

there's expansions as well, including a forest with zombie dogs. we need to get that one.

man, i miss magic. i ought to track down some more revised-era cards and build some decks...

Oh my god, I can't believe I forgot to mention zombies!!!.

I have all three expansions for that game, and freaking love it.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of The Nightmare Before Christmas.

I can't wait to see Corpse Bride.

I'm going to buy Beetlejuice on DVD, because for some reason I don't own it already.

I hope I get to work with Tim Burton some day.

I cleaned out about 5/8 of my garage today. It's the third time I've done that in the six years we've lived here, and each time I am surprised at the things I am ready to throw out -- those things from my life before I was married, those things from before we lived in this house, those things that used to see so important...

I did that when I threw my old life out the window a few years ago -- gave away or threw away just about everything I owned except for some clothes, books, music, my guitars, my stereo, and my playstation. Moved 2/3rds of the way across the country, with everything I owned (after the purge of useless goods) fitting in my car. It was great.

However, since then, I seem to have acquired more things than I had before. I don't know how this happens. surreal

Just moved in preperation for divorce / splitting of goods and was amazed at the amount of stuff that went by the way side. My soon-to-be-ex is a pack rat of Herculian proportions. Two large dumpsters (the 8'x8'x20' variety) filled with things. Clothes, furniture, fabric of every style and cut, books, anything and everything. Some things I regret, but not much. Enjoying the pared down lifestyle of fewer posessions.

By the way, I never realized you were a writer, but I looked through some of your journals and your blog and found myself entertained. Keep it up and I will follow when I can biggrin
