I really should be writing, but I just can't stop reading the Dictionary of Cockney Rhyming Slang. It's the second best dictionary I own.
Damn my fascinating collection of dictionaries. If I never finish my book, I blame them.

Once in a while, I make exotic meat jambalaya. The last one was crawfish, alligator, and lapin. It was magnificent.
How was kangaroo? I've never had it.

Kangaroo and stewed prunes sounds interesting. From growing up in deer country, I can tell you that gameyness in meat can usually be cut by cooking it with a little bacon grease (I love deer steaks fried in bacon grease). I've never had horse, though. Some strange bit of sentimentality prevents me from eating any animal that would have been a childhood companion--so no dog, cat, or horse.
For the writing, let it come as it comes. Most of the prolific authors are shit, anyway. The only reason you want to be Steven King is to be rich. Plus, most of them had shitty day jobs to begin with, so keep your head up.

Sometimes life will present me with a moment, a collection of incidents and stimuli, in which life is so heartbreakingly beatiful that it makes me cry.
This morning it was:
-driving
-rain turning to soft snow
-The Phoenix Foundation, This Charming Van
-my temporarily overwhelming melancholy
-and my toes being just cold enough.

When I'm on, I can do about six pages of near-final-draft quality work every hour. I put down a 60,000 word novel in just over three days once. Then come the times like now when I just can't write.
You can imagine how nuts that makes me.

I'm currently doing some hardcore scheming and plotting, and if my plans come to fruition I will be the coolest person on the motherfucking planet.
Wish me luck.
Wish me luck.

I doubt you'll need my luck wishes. My shoe-owning powers have grown to the point where I no longer buy the shoes, I simply adore them from afar and point lesser buyers to them.

I hate:

My edit was to replace the incorrect "I've had with the numerous of the SGSeattle people" section with "I've had with various of the SGSeattle people", and you know it. Trying to make a poor, vain boy look bad. So very sad.

I LOATHE mayonnaise. My freshman year of college my roommates and I knew mayonnaise only as "The Devil's Condiment."
Yech. Give me mustard any day.
Edited to say that only NHS gives one the right to be an overwhelming ass!

I was in dire need of amusement, so I asked one of my co-workers if he would do a tap-dance for me. The only problem was, he thought I said lap-dance. Much hilarity ensued at the bank today.

Thanks for the link to Zack's page; he seems to be just what I'm looking for. I'll try e-mailing him today or tomorrow about some specifics.
Oh, and by the way, you rock my socks off. Cheers.

Teehee! Thank you for the reminder. You don't need to repost. I just need to tack up the list somewhere that I will see it everyday. (Yes, I AM a silly monkey!

She gently, almost cautiously, picked up another one as it pointed its tiny raygun at her face --its round, crispy head held daintily between red lacquered thumb...

"What does Hell have to do with anything?"
dietotzeit:
Well, it serves a number of different purposes depending on who you ask. First off, what is it? Once one defines Hell for oneself, we are a step closer to determining its status.
For me, Hell is a necessary component of literature. I mean, where would we be without Milton's Hell? "Tis' better to rule . . .," you know that jazz, right? In this instance, Hell is not so much a mythical, socially constructed landscape, but a private landscape defined by one's absolute determination, the power of being able to say "I'm not taking your shit, I'll fight to the last breath before I submit." It is the best and the worst of being human.
Or, you could look to Dante, who argued something along the same point when he put Ulysses in Hell. If Christianity (for instance) has its way, nearly everyone that we look up to in the past as a heroic figure would most likely have their own room in Hell.
Oh hell, I could go on forever.

It amuses me that Milton started popping up in conversation all over the site right when I started reading Paradise Lost again...

So drink up, kiddies. Science says it's okay.
Science also makes grammatical errors, and I catch them.

They could have been drunk while writing that, hence the typo. I'm not complaining, though. I can think of no better source for rationalizing my vices than a group of tipsy medical scientists.

In that case, I'll be fine.
My new favorite kind of word is the back formation. A back formation happens when a root word comes into accepted usage only after the pre- or suffixed word does. I've found a few of them while reading the dictionary (yes, I read the dictionary for fun, and if you're going to snigger at me for it you've got no business in my journal), but...

Hm...I'll have to look up pecunious...vincible...iterate (actually, I think that really is a word)...cidivism (you know, like recidivist).
I remember hearing the story that some Victorian British colonel in India telegraphed that he had just taken the city of Sindh with a one-word message: Peccavi...as in 'I have Sindh.' I don't know that the story is true, but I didn't make it up.

But I did hang out with them before one of their concerts in Hamtramck in the mid-80s. That was fun.
Oh, and have you heard of the Russian swear *language*? It is an entire, real language, with a large vocabulary built out of just four roots, which are, like, cock, fuck, cunt, and whore, or something like that.
And you might want to check out the fun and fascinating Swearasaurus.
