Truly excellent homemade nachos require the following, in addition to the chips n' salsa:

Frank's Red Hot "Chile n' Lime" sauce
Sargento shredded "Nachos and Tacos" cheese
Club House Tex-Mex seasoning

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I also prefer to go a grade lighter than you would on the salsa (ie mild instead of medium if that's your bag) and letting the extra spices do the work. Just me...

With 3-days of Canada Day long weekendy goodness at my disposal, I had all kinds of plans.

I wanted to:

-clean up around my place
-catch up on my laundry
-restring all my guitars
-go for a long drive in the sun and check out some of the surrounding towns
-watch some dvds that have been lingering around
-spend time outside
-wash and vaccuum my...

well yeah but look at all the stuff on that list. You could never have made a decent stab at accomplishing all of them. So better just do one thing really well rather than spreading yourself too thin,

So the girl and I went out to see Batman today, although I will admit it was more because Land of the Dead isn't showing in town yet.

I'd heard good things and was really interested in checking it out, and I thought it was fantastic. Better than Spiderman... maybe not quite as awesome as Spiderman 2... but still pretty freaking fantastic.

It's probably even...

Ok, here are my Batman rants:

-I'm totally with you on the fight scenes, they gave me a fucking headache.

-I've said it before and I'll say it again, why was Alfred a better critical thinker then "The World's Greatest Detective"? Batman has always been more than gadgets and intimidation. His mind has always been his best weapon (for that matter, so has Ra's Al Goul's). So why was he a thug with a couple of neat theater tricks, prototype gadgets and martial arts? Where was his brain?

-The pacing was awkward. The first half hour was nothing but jarring flashbacks. I followed them and understood the narrative, it just got annoying to constantly have to jump back and forth between the past and the present.

-The Batmobile sequence. Let me get this straight, he goes through years of intensive training to learn the art of invisibility...just so he can run a souped up hummer thorugh anything in his way? If that's the case, why bother being invisible at all? You're driving a fucking M1A1 Abrams through a crouded city! Is The Wayne Foundation going to pay for all the damage that car did? The reason the "Bat-Tank" worked in Dark Knight Returns is because he wasn't trying to be subtle, or stealthy. He was making a stand and a statement. That car was meant to put the fear of god into the street gangs. This one was meant to give us the obligatory car chase while convincing fanboys that Miller's ideas were being used. I'm sorry, it's true.

- I'm fully convinced that David Goyer is a hack writer. The only thing that saved the first 2 Blade movies was the acting and directing. This script was a bunch of one-liners and plot devices. If you're going to crib from the best (Miller) then do it all the way, don't do this half-assed shit and add some of your shlock into the mix too

-Gordon driving the Batmobile puke

-Let me make sure I'm following this, the train had the device on it that would cover Gotham in fear toxin if it got to the Wayne Foundation building. So they destroy the train...by crashing it into the Wayne Foundation building surreal

Definately an entartaining flick, but it's not even my favorite comic book movie of the year so far. Hell it's not even my second. Those go to Sin City and Constantine respectively.

I think you might actually like the new album, too. The first single is totally a red herring, but on the rest of it, I don't know... I don't think they've ever been less concerned with being a rawk band than on this album.

Actually, if that single does it for you, so would their first album--take a listen to "Broken Bricks", "The Astro", and "Jimmy The Exploder" and tell me you're not in love.

I really just don't have a lot to say right now.

That's not a good thing or a bad thing.

It just is.

The weather can be quite lovely where I am. I need to be outside more. I should buy a bike.

And I need to turn the computer off more and pick up a guitar.

And I have to figure out how to...

You too. I miss having all my friends right there, and ya know what? Bookmarks sucks. I like having a buncha purple names that I can easily click on to see what you are up to.

The girl and I spent a lovely day together, after a somewhat less lovely day in which my own rumination on turning 30 this year and how it made me feel old somehow got translated into a perceived stab at her. She's two years my senior, and has never thought of herself as old. I certainly don't blame her - we're both pups.

But still...

Dude, that's hilarious. As is the concept of a Pizza Hut Italian Bistro. I guess we don't have them down here.

What we do have is an all you can eat KFC/Taco Bell. Now that's the good stuff.

Am I a bad person because I didn't go to prom?

Or did I not go to prom because I'm a bad person?

The only thing I know for sure is that I need to play more guitar.
akirali:
I only decided to do that thing because I had read and seen several news reports about how it is legit. They approved my refferals and I placed my official order last night. My order is currently "processing" and I should have it in 1-2 weeks. We shall see how it goes. Lumines is probably the first game I get. I also wanna pick up Untold Legends, Metal Gear Ac!d (I know, it's a card battle game, but I actually love Capcom vs SNK: Cardfighters Clash) Tony Hawk Underground 2, Hot Shots Golf and Wipeout.
Once they're availible I wanna get Infected, GTA: Liberty City Stories, and Burnout Legends or Midnight Club 3 *drooool*
Now, I just need to hope that this auction (and all the ones like it) will stick around until I get paid and can afford the shipping.
dholokov:
that question must never be answered.

Prom's not in the cards. The proper authorities have been notified. It's a done deal.

Don't look at me like that.

Courage, my friends.

I have the feeling that the good news of the entire waiting list might be because I made way for the stragglers.

Work, work, work.

On the off chance that I won't have to work this weekend, I'm not going to...

You know, I'm not even particularly convinced that I ever had "it", but it was sure nice to get some looks at the grocery store today which suggested that just maybe I hadn't lost it.

There was one girl perusing the produce - with a boy on her arm, may I add - who shot me a couple of looks that were absolutely Seinfeldian in...

"What are we going to do now?"
-Final line of Buffy the Vampire Slayer
(this may be too geekboy for you, but the commentary on that final episode by creator Joss Whedon is really well done and, I felt, adds a fair bit to watching it, especially the little speech he makes over that line).

further edit....oops! I read your thread again, and it looks like you haven't actually finished season VII. Silly me. I guess I gave away the ending. oops!)

So I just got back from taking the girl to see Episode 3.

Well, it did what it had to.

The funny part for me is that everything that didn't have to do with people was brilliant.

We spent a big chunk of our weekend marathoning season 3 of Six Feet Under. I'm disappointed to see that it's already making the classic HBO mistake of...

Caught Mike Doughty at the Rivoli in Toronto last night. Sublime fun as always, although I have to say that I didn't like the Rivoli as a venue as much as Lee's, where I caught him last year.

The time for medium rock is now. Come to medium rock.

Dogslife and Ginny were nice enough to come out and roll with the girl and I,...
