So our graduation party went well. I collected enough swag, loot, and plunder to last me a while until I can get a job. I feel like talking like a pirate. ARRR!!!

Unfortunately, as Jimmy Buffet sang, I was born 200 years too late. I still have my catamaran dreams, though.

Last night I watched The Girl Next Door. There's a part in it where...

haha, yea I know. it took me a few days to think about mine.
sophie:

I'm always looking at things like that - the psychology of the broken and what have you.

i get that, but i really disliked The Girl Next Door. i hate that women in the sex industry are always portrayed as broken. i worked in the sex industry for three years, and i come from a healthy family, and i didn't turn to sex work from a place of desperation. the same old cliches just don't do it for me.

I'm disgusted with Ron Howard after A Beautiful Mind.

totally. i totally feel you. that movie sucked and it could've been awesome. however, Cinderella Man is good. i really think it is. although, once again, i think Howard faltered by making the villain in-human.

Did you get my second comment the other day?

i get all of the comments that people write. some days i'm just crap at replying to them. some day i'll explain to you over coffee, or a beer.

Today I must update my jourmal, put together a resume, and shop for a digital camera.

i thought we agreed that you weren't shopping for a digital camera until you got a job at the camera store? did that fall through? hence the resume?

the trick to buying fancy equipment is that you ultimately must pursue what you love. if you spend your life pursuing what you love, you will reap what you sow. if you need a fancy camera to do that, then get a fancy camera. that's what i think.

what is up with this crush on mathgirl? is that the woman you mentioned who lives far away? but she has a man, right? you are too cute to throw your heart away on some strumpet that already has a man. find a cute rockabilly chick at the hot rod show. you can do it!

oh yeah, and how did the brownies go over?

kiss

Putting together a decent resume sucks. But I think you can get pretty good pay as a technical writer, can't you?

I am, or at least was, and theoretically/hopefully will be again soon/eventually. What made you ask?

And my favorite skirt only fits because I've been putting on a tad bit of weight, so it's not entirely a good thing... It's nice that it fits, but not so nice why it fits.

I think that Porsche's are the most adorable things in the world. Some day I will have one. Some day when i am ridiculously rich. Like never.

I'm going to be baking later today. Chocolate brownies with fudge frosting. Between the brownies and the frosting the recipe calls for about a pound of butter. Of course, they're quite yummy. oink

I got my hair cut yesterday; now I'm quite pretty. Well, maybe not pretty, but at least I don't look shaggy.

I accidentally sliced my thumb with a knife yesterday. Luckily my reflexes...

ha! i am now enthralled with the idea of getting to know you better. do you want to know how i realized this about myself? i looked through Gage's set to see what you're attracted to about it.

do you like swords? if so, have you seen this set: Daisho by Aya.

also, i read back a couple of your entries, and since you like fantasy/sci fi, i must ask, have you seen this set, and if so, what do you think? Viking by Amelie

oh yes, and i wanted to ask you if you're inviting friends and family to your graduation party, or just friends, or just school friends, or what? i never throw parties, so when other people do it, i'm morbidly fascinated with the process.

anyways, i just think you're neato. and i may have the ulterior motive that i have for a long time really wanted to go to minneapolis, and i like to do this thing where i meet people on SG in different states and then i get to see the state because i know someone there. it's like networking. and then, if you turn out to be a great human, and you like the network, it also means that whenever you're in kansas, you have someone to turn to. yay for that!

Trouble is, I don't want to teach. That makes the whole thing harder.

The book is just this random fantasy book I bought years and years ago. It's called Exiles: The Ruins of Ambrai, by Melanie Rawn. First in a three book series, but she'll probably never write the third one. It's been expected for a few years now.

Anything that requires a pound of butter must be good.

I've decided that too many of my journal entries are negative. I feel that's only natural, since I have this nihilism thing going - I don't call it depression; my sadness has very specific causes, and I know what they are.

Anyway, from this point forward I'm going to make an attempt to write at least one positive thing in every journal entry.

So this...

wow! i have a parallel experience with you.

in may of 2000 my brother graduated from high school and i graduated from college. same time. instead of having a graduation party, we took a road trip. we drove up from Fresno, California all the way to the Olympic National Forest in Washington state. it's the only temperate rainforest in the U.S. so beautiful.

i have read Snow Crash, it was my introduction to Stephenson and i loved it! i'm on page 315 of 1056 or something like that in Cryptonomicon. so good, but so long!

i am also more than half way through with The Power of Myth and i swear, every page has something amazing that i want to talk about. did you see my Joseph Campbell journal entries a couple days back? they were right before the Car Show entry last week. he's so fuckin' cool.

for some reason i think Phillip Larkin taught at Fresno State (my alma mater). am i crazy?

so there! i've traded you long comments!

kiss
venice:
Sort of similar, but it's more like you've just never seen them before at all, and you think, what are you doing next to me? or, how did you get into that picture on my wall?

Being excited about something is exciting. You're giddy all the time and it makes you want to jump up and down and you can't stay asleep in the morning. I know how you feel though, it's been a long time for me, too.

I have been told that having a degree of any kind helps you get a job of any kind, but I don't know how true that is, really. What jobs really do have to do with math, anyway,

Well, I called MathGirl yesterday. Much to my surprise, she was on her way to Pennsylvania. I knew she was leaving soon, but...

I can't help but feel that she and Epsilon Dog are gone from the novel of my life forever. Granted, it shouldn't make any difference whether she's 300 miles away or 800, but I guess it's not the distance.

It's new people,...

I am relying on my non-job experiences to prove that I am a hireable person. But yeah, when you're going to a tiny liberal arts college that requires basically more studying time than there are hours in the day, it does not leave much time for real jobs. At least you apparently have a degree though? I've heard those things can help... I have nothing to show for myself.

I'm going to vote for dramatic reappearance, but that's only because I don't like to think about people being gone forever.

I had a relaxing Memorial Day weekend. Saturday we went up to the lake. I started drinking at 11 am, and quit around midnight. Yet I didn't get trashed, amazingly.

Got up Sunday morning, had breakfast, a couple more beers, went home, and crashed. I then watched disc 2 of Quantum Leap, Season 3.

Barbeque yesterday. Now it's back to the hassle of trying to...

did you see my two comments on your journal entry from yesterday?

well, i looked it up and st. paul is 7.5 hours away from lawrence. that's quite the drive. we'll see.

um, i say have the patience and spend less. you can't put color film in your SLR? i also say...

why on earth would you give up masterbation? the only time i advise this behavior is if you know you're getting laid soon and you want a fabulous orgasm.

After reading Youth in Revolt, Fight Club, and some other things over the years, I've decided that I'm going to create an anti-social alter-ego for myself. Any ideas on what I should call him?

Not much luck in the job search yet, but then I haven't been looking terribly hard. I'll have to get on that this week. Stupid jobs.

No word from...

oooo! fabulous! dude! that MSRA show looks dope! i wonder how far st. paul is from lawrence. i'm guessing eight hours. it would be so fun though! do you think all the cheap motels are sold out by now?
sophie:
and are your measurements seriously 36-24-36?

if so, i'm jealous.

I went to the bookstore the day before yesterday and bought two books: Youth in Revolt by CD Payne, and Bruce Campbell's autobiography, If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B-movie Actor. I highly recommend both.

I'm not going to explain Youth in Revolt here, it's just too bizarre. Check it out on Amazon.

I wonder if you have to have been an awkward...

I've decided that having an imagination is a terrible thing. Parents, please, don't let your kids grow up on fantasy and science-fiction novels. It's cruel.

I grew up reading such things. And it's terrible, because I have to live in the real world. No magic, no force powers, wizards or dragons.

When did I stop believing?
elijah:
basically all i know how to do is get the pics from the camera into the computer, and then someone taught me how to put them in photobucket so i can post them. the problem lies wherein the preview image (the one i used) is too small, but when i use the larger image it cuts out half the picture. i dont understand computer stuff until someone shows me. im old! it reminds me of how my mother could never work the VCR. my kids will laugh at me like i did at her.

So I graduated today. Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in Mathematics, Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude, etc.

I'm sure it was all very exciting. I got to wear a robe and a funny hat; it had a gold tassel. Very spiffy threads, I must say.

Other than that, not much eventful. It sounds like my sister is just getting home from the prom, at...

I saw Revenge of the Sith yesterday, of course. I thought it was great. But I'm a nerd, so my opinion on Star Wars is questionable.

No, but really, it is pretty good. Ok, I think spectacular, but I've been waiting for it my entire life. Definately a tear-jerker, even though you know what's going to happen. Heartbreaking, even.

I see that it had leaked...

Well, graduation is this Saturday. Isn't that exciting? I think I'll pick up my cap and gown today. I'll probably wear them around just for the hell of it.

However, the big question is, "What am I going to do next?" It's looking more and more like I won't be going to grad school in the fall. I've begun to accept this, and am ok...
