So... I actually like Valentine's Day. Okay, hear me out.

I don't like the idea behind it, that you take one day out of the year to tell that special someone that you *really* love them (shouldn't you do that every day? or every other day? and how does buying her chocolate or roses prove anything?) because it implies that it's okay to take that...

A lot of this has been on my mind lately, probably because of Valentine's Day and the deluge of related imagery. I was actually responding to someone else's blog on another site and ran over a bit too long, so I thought I'd flesh out what I have to say here. Now, I'll be the first to acknowledge that there *might* be a bit of...

It's very hard to get parents to understand that you don't want to live the same kind of lifestyle they chose, especially when that lifestyle is the one chosen by society at large.
Also, parents thinking their children "owe" them grandkids, a lifestyle choice, or anything really, is horrible, I think. Parents should just want their children to be happy and healthy, bottom line.

Btw, it's cool that you dress well. It shows that you have pride and self-respect. Too many people go around looking like slobs nowadays.

I haven't posted a blog in a while, so I'm gonna be lazy and copy (with edits) a series of posts I put up on Facebook, a debate I was having about interracial dating. This is actually a series of responses, but I put them together as best as I was able in order to form a self contained essay, and added a conclusion, so...

So tonight I had a rigorous debate over the (non)existence of morality, free will, and the soul against a hopeless romantic (who also happens to be an ex girlfriend of mine), an Iraq War veteran (who has quickly become one of my best friends), and my bartender (who's a card carrying Christian but we get along anyway).

And, afterward, after the hopeless romantic/ex-gf drove me...

I apologize in advance for any incoherence and for the generally poor writing: I won't be editing this before I post it.

I just finished transcribing, onto my laptop, a fictional character's "spellbook" that I've kept in my journal over the last year. I did this just so I could have said character's repertoire on hand as I write, so that I would know the...

Haven't updated in a while, but I won't get much of a chance this weekend: the MOB is in town today.

And by "MOB" I mean Mack, Oeming, and Bendis.

If you don't read comic books then those names are meaningless. If you do, and in particular if you read Powers, or just about anything by Marvel lately, you probably wish you were in Greensboro,...

This is my typical Saturday night:

I get into work at 5pm. I greet the departing clerk and talk "geek" with him for a few minutes as the morning manager does shift change. He's into Transformers and 80s cartoons, the morning clerk, neither of which are really my "thing" anymore but I'm a comic book guy so our interests overlap, especially lately since I have...

Hey, just a little tip: when you're wanting to reply to a comment on your blog, you click on the profile pic of the person you want to reply to and post your reply on their blog. Otherwise if you're just posting your reply on your own blog, they will never see it unless they happen to go back to your page for some reason. smile
appetite:
yes, I waste a few nights a week at College Hill... so that must be where I've seen you.

Apparently, today, at least in the US, is National Coming Out Day (the UK celebrates tomorrow for some reason, I blame timezones), so in the spirit of passive aggressive activism I submit that I AM BISEXUAL (of course if you're on SuicideGirls, or OKC, you already know this by looking at my profile). I've known this for years, and never really thought enough about it...

Damn... didnt realize there was a cut-off period? How long do I have until I am considered straight???? AAAAAAA *panic* tongue

I agree with what you are saying (although from a girl perspective obviously). I am bi, have been since I can remember. I just happen to prefer boys for relationships and girls for one night stands. The reasoning, I am a girl, and I think girls are way too much effort to have a relationship with. (No offense to any girls, maybe I just havent found the 'right' girl).

Pity you dont want to join the parade though... parades seem like so much fun smile (Just the general idea of them at least).
oldboyeasy:
@Ailis: You get a year, apparently. The cut off is a year or you lose your card. As far as parades go, I just don't like crowds I guess....

So I've long been an opponent of "hipster" culture, making it loud and plain my disdain for what I derisively refer to as "poor boy chic." I grew up in perpetual poverty as a child in the Bronx, and even now I merely live paycheck to paycheck, so whenever I see one of these student loan munching, couch surfing, parent mooching, thrift store hunting, PBR...
